BMW
I've started juicing and am hitting a couple of bumps... I am allergic to apples, pears, peaches and carrots... Most recipes use apples or carrots... I tried one today with two apples and my throat started to swell... had to take two benadryl. If you juice, do you have a few recommendations for me? I'd love to know that I'm trying out something that others make and enjoy... Thanks!
Annie
I find that part of a grapefruit brightens up just about anything!
Anne
I've made smoothies with spinach, yogurt, frozen strawberries or blueberries and a banana. Yum!! Anne
PrincessMommy
I second citrus fruits. They are a nice altertaive to apple. For carrots - what about parsnips?
LaxMom
I do one with a pineapple, 4-6 oranges, and a can of coconut milk. Add some crushed ice and it's better than Orange Julius! :)
jentancalann
Squash makes a lot of juice with very little flavor so you could add that or zucchini to bulk it up, adding what you can eat for flavor.
icul8rg8r
Do you mind me asking what sort of juicer you use?
Tracy in Ky
Well, I juice but I don't enjoy it. :D I do enjoy the incredible energy it gives me, but I think it tastes horrible. I hold my nose and use a straw. I juice: brocolli cauliflower celery parsley purple cabbage green cabbage brussels sprouts beet greens carrots (very few) kale I have some bok choy to juice. I don't think it will taste any better than the above ingredients.:tongue_smilie:
thescrappyhomeschooler
Here are some I found online- I've tried some of them. 1. 1/2 ripe pineapple, 2 cucumbers, 1 bunch mint 2. 5 oranges, 1/2 bunch parsley 3. 6-8 kale leaves, 6-8 swiss chard leaves, 1 cucumber, 6 clementines 4. 2 cups blueberries, 2 kiwi fruit, 16 strawberries, 2 cups mint leaves 5. 2.5 cups watermelon, 1 cup blueberries, 6-8 leaves swiss chard 6. 1 fennel bulb, 1 cucumber, 3 celery stalks, 3 cups spinach 7. 3 cups cranberries, 4" piece of ginger, 3 oranges, 2 small ruby red grapefruit, 2 limes 8. 1 big bunch parsley, 1 tomato, 1/4 red onion, 1 lemon, 1/2 cucumber, dash of sea salt and black pepper 9. 1/3 pineapple, 2 large watermelon slices, 1" ginger root 10. 1 orange, 1 2" piece of ginger, 1/3 pineapple Really, though, if I were you, I'd experiment with mixing the things you aren't allergic to, and see what you like. You can really juice about anything. Sweet potatoes make some delicious juice. I'm also into juicing beets in just about everything. I think a tasty juice would be beet, orange, sweet potato. Maybe I'll try that!
momma2three
It takes a lot of fruit to make a little juice, so I think most recipes try to use cheap fruits that make a relatively large amount of juice as a base. Kale juice is great and all, but it takes an entire bunch to get a few tablespoons. The ones you are allergic to fit the bill, so I would just look into replacing them with other ones that meet those criteria. I've had luck getting a lot of juice from melons, tomatoes, squash, and cucumbers.
