k2bdeutmeyer
I'm making one for pulled pork sandwiches tonight. I usually put quite a bit of chicken broth in to keep it moist. Is this necessary? Or would it be fine on it's own? Or, would water do the same job? I have some, but just thinking I wouldn't use it if I didn't have to. Mergath
I'm pretty sure water would work just as well. Or, if you have them on hand, you can also use apple juice or even root beer.
k2bdeutmeyer
Hmm....what about diet pepsi?? lol I have various forms of fruit juice (not apple - mostly berry blends), diet pepsi, beef broth, chicken broth, and water.
melissad2
I never put anything on mine, just plop the roast in and turn it on :)

Lol... that I'm not sure about. I'd probably go with the beef broth. I cook pork chops in it, and they come out tasting really good.

I actually have a lot more beef broth than I do chicken broth, so that sounds like a good answer to me :)

TXMomof4
I bet the diet pepsi would be good. My friend uses coke in hers all the time. Or cider vinegar. I'm not sure of proportions so don't go pour cups of vinegar over a roast - but it sure makes for tender meat.
UnsinkableKristen
I use Dr Pepper and Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce and it is fantastic :)
~Tara~
I don't use anything either. The roast is usually swimming in its own juices.
MamaT
I season it well, and add water. Comes out great.
TKDmom
I think too much liquid ruins meat in the crockpot. My favorite pork roast recipe has a marinade with some citrus juice, onions, and a bunch of spices. It's delicious, but if I were just going to pour BBQ sauce on it, I'd cook the pork roast with just a little bit of chicken broth or water. It will be swimming in its own juices by the time it's done.
jen_batten
I don't put anything in mine and it turns out just fine. The roast itself seems to have enough moisture to keep things yummy.

Gailmegan
I poke a few cloves in mine, then put it on some sliced onions and just add 1/2 cup of water. 2 hours before eating I remove the water/onions/cloves, pull the pork apart and add barbecue sauce. nukeswife
I would use the beef broth or water. I think I read somewhere that you shouldn't use Diet soda when cooking because something about the way the artificial sweeteners break down from cooking isn't good. Not sure if that is really true or not. I can't drink diet soda so I never have it around.
AuntieM
Apple Cider. Yum.
k2bdeutmeyer
Well....I went with the beef broth. We have a late night tonight....gymnastics from 3:45 to 6pm, softball from 6pm to 7:30pm, and then a band concert at 8pm. I figured dinner ready to go in the crock pot would be a good idea :)
TKDmom
Recipe please? Here you go. http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/slow-roasted-pork-10000000365191/ It's not a crockpot recipe, but I just put it in the crockpot on low for about 8 hours before shredding it. The related Carribean Rice and Peas is also really good.
