What classes does your coop offer for highschoolers?

Recommended Posts

I am looking for high school coop class ideas. Not science or math. I'm looking for something they won't get at home and it would be something as a group they could learn about. We have had very few high schoolers until now, so this will be new territory. Thanks!

I like your emphasis on things not easily done at home. Here are some things we've done or thought about doing at local co-ops here, especially smaller, more family-style co-ops:

- speech

- drama

- phy ed

- book club discussion

- math team with competitions

- science fairs & science labs

Here are some local huge homeschool co-ops, which function more like high schools, in the Minneapolis area for you to peruse:

Our co-op has changed over the years but we try to offer courses where students benefit from being in a group (eg, Drama or certain discussion classes), courses where the instructor has special expertise in an area where some parents feel inadequate to teach, or just fun "enrichment" courses. Some are included every year due to popularity (eg, Drama again); some cycle in and out. Some courses we have included:

Studio Art

Debate

Civics

Essay Writing

Lit Analysis

Gym

Ballroom Dance

Fencing

Art History

Literature/ Poetry

Apologetics

First Aid

Nutrition

Woodworking

Acting

Drama(Production)

Some years we are able to schedule Biology labs at the nearby Christian university on a day other than our co-op day but we no longer run science courses as they don't fit into our 12-week semesters and we don't have the right facilities to run them
