A home for their hearts
My two oldest kids are not mathy at all, or maybe they are but I just haven't figured out how to reach them. I see birds flying above their heads everytime I try to teach. I'm not great with math but I do ok. We've tried Math Mammoth, K12, Rod and Staff, Teaching Textbooks and RightStart and it all just seems to fly over their heads. We are still working on 3rd grade math concepts. I would really like for them to like math and understand it but that's not looking too promising. Is there some great math program out there that I'm missing? HELP! mama25angels
Have you looked at Singapore?
MomatHWTK
I am starting with the Level 1 videos on this site to help my kiddos get a fresh perspective: http://www.thesingaporemaths.com/
A home for their hearts
We borrowed MUS from a friend and I got the deer in the headlights look from both of them. I've asked about Singapore Math here and people seem to think it isn't good to use for remedial students.
blondeviolin
Before you do anything drastic, maybe you just need a good set of manips... Have you tried c rods?

Have you tried c rods? :iagree: I was going to suggest this as well. Also, look at khanacademy, he has videos that might help.
SuperDad
Hmm. Have you considered these?:MEP,Miquon, ALEKS, Math on the Level, Life of Fred, Saxon, Making Math Meaningful, JUMP Math, Ray's Arithmetic, Shiller Math, TenMarks, Khan Academy, Destination Math... that's all I can think of at the moment. I also 2nd the manipulatives suggestion.
Lecka
My son's school has switched to Math in Focus (considered Singapore Math) and it is considered very good for remedial students! They spend a lot of time on one topic, and go slow, and they use a lot of manipulatives at school. It is mastery based. They lay it out well and don't seem to skip around. I don't know that it is better than something else or the best choice, I am just saying, I would not rule it out by any means.

boscopup
I'd probably look at Jump math, as it's intended for remedial instruction. Also, I'd get them evaluated to rule out an LD.
ktgrok
i've read on here many many times that kids that are drowning in math do great with CLE. And it is cheap to order one unit and see how they do.
