4Kiddos
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for their favorite or dc's favorite picture books. I have three little boys and we read a lot each day. I am looking to add to my library and was wondering what ideas you had. Thanks!
kubiac
I'm working on transcribing a recommended reading list for multiple ages as it appeared in a 1963 children's literature guide. Check it out--you might find something intriguing that you haven't seen elsewhere, and good luck. Vintage 1963 Children's Book Lists P.S. My kid is obsessed with Llama Llama Red Pajama, and it's a great read-aloud!
Julie Smith
One not mentioned much, .. Hairy Maclary It's a wonderful picture book series by Lynley Dodd. I'm not sure why, but you can watch the whole book on youtube.
Deee
We loved Hairy Maclary! I can still recite most of the books. This will be a stream of consciousness, mostly without authors (best I can manage today - sorry!) Owen and the Mountain (M.Doyle - glorious pictures, beautiful story) Jody's Beans (great botany) Zoltan the Magnificent (and anything else by Bob Graham) Grandpa's Shed Some dogs do (silly but fun) Farmer Duck (and anything else by Martin Waddell) Any of Elsa Beskow's books eg Pele's New Suit If you can find it (I have my copy from my childhood) Travelling to Tripiti is wonderful. Kathleen in LV
One of my favorites was "Grandmother's Pigeon" (which required Kleenex for me). But if you asked my 5yo son, his favorites would include: Blueberries for Sal Goldilocks and the Three Hares The Funny Little Woman The Little Rooster and the Diamond Button Sylvester and the Magic Pebble The Little House The Fisherman and his Wife The Man who Walked Between the Towers The Old Woman and Her Pig (which I found terribly annoying, but he insisted on reading it again & again)

MeaganS
The Old Woman and Her Pig (which I found terribly annoying, but he insisted on reading it again & again) Me too! My 3 year old knows that whole story by heart. In fact, when we sing Old McDonald, she always includes items from the story and what they do. Like the stick says "poke poke here..." Not a parental favorite, but she LOVES it.
Kathleen in LV
Me too! My 3 year old knows that whole story by heart. In fact, when we sing Old McDonald, she always includes items from the story and what they do. Like the stick says "poke poke here..." Not a parental favorite, but she LOVES it. Ugh! I don't remember all the details (I really try to block it out), but as I would read, I would get questions like "If the water quenches the fire, how can the fire burn the stick?" And I just want to respond, "I don't know, but can we just get through this please?!?!" If he sang the book, I think I'd pull my hair out. Fortunately, most of the other books he really likes are rather enjoyable.
