sleeplessnights
I'm trying to get into a good routine this year, but I'm wondering whether my students will retain more by doing a little bit of spelling and grammar daily, or if I should just do them on alternate days? What are your experiences? Thanks! Julie

parias1126
We use R&S spelling and we have finished it in 3 days this week. Last week we used Day 4 for our test. We use GWG which follows a 3 day/week schedule. We do also use FLL2 and have completed up to 4 lessons a week.
MerryAtHope
I do think short, daily spelling lessons achieve more than longer but less frequent lessons, especially for skills-based subjects. At the ages of your kids, I consider grammar to be more about exposure, so I think either way is fine. Merry :-)

Stratford
So far we've done spelling and grammar daily (along with math.) I think he's retaining things better this way. We'll see. :001_smile:

Mama2two
We do spelling five times a week and grammar 3 times a week. I see our spelling as also additional phonics review (we use AAS) and I agree that short lessons frequently help the most
coralloyd
With my 7 yr. old we do grammar everyday, of a4day school week. Spelling we don't start till 3rd grade. With my 9 yr. old we do grammar 2 days a week and Latin 2 days a week. Spelling is 3 days a week and typing the 4th day. She is a natural speller, if she struggled we would do the 4th day also. kandty
We do grammar 2-3 times a week for 15 minutes each. We do spelling 4 days a week for 30 minutes, but in two settings (15 minutes with me and 15 minutes on their own). I think time and days spent has a lot to do with the child too. With grammar we do lots of oral and then review with workbooks. This combo has helped with my boys and their grammar retention.
Soror
We're doing FLL 3x a week(4 day wk) and some spelling everyday as part of our reading/phonics. I think doing the spelling daily is really going to be a boost to our reading.
Amy Jo
We are doing spelling daily (SWR). Grammar (KISS) is 3 days a week, and they seem to remember just fine.
