WarriorMama
Let's say you have a wedding to go to. The wedding of people who are important to you, who you would normally buy a very nice gift for. But you've had a run of financial mishaps and are really, truly, painfully short on cash. What would you give them? Any brilliant and creative ideas? We're relatively handy/crafty/creative types, but I'm just stumped for ideas because in my mind, a wedding gift = spending a good chunk of change. Help please, oh wise ladies of the Hive!!! athena1277
How about a nice frame for them to put a wedding picture in? You can find a nice one for not too much $$ and they don't have to know how much you spent.
kht2006
Gift certificate for a meal for 2 prepared by you on a day of their choice Picnic basket, bottle of wine/sparkling juice, pretty napkins, etc. gift certificate to cater a picnic for them. Wonderful card with true words of wisdom about having a successful marriage. A dear friend made our wedding invitation into a work of art. It hangs in our bedroom. DH hasn't forgotten our anniversary yet:)

Spryte
We made a basket of "firsts" for our son's birthmother. We were on a budget, but wanted to do something special. We hand wrote a tag to attach to each item in the basket: "For your first breakfast in bed" (handmade pancake mix tied up with a nice bottle of maple syrup); "For the first night you are snowed in together" (handmade hot chocolate mix with 2 mugs); "For your first game night" (a mah jong set from Chinatown); and ... so many more. I can't remember them all. If you have scrapbooking supplies for the tags, a nice basket and ribbon, you can make it very pretty. :)
helena
Handmade recipe book :iagree: I'm planning to do something similar for my cousin when she gets married. I want to buy a cute recipe box and cards, send the cards out to family and friends to contributed their best recipes, and put it all together as a gift. You could make your own recipe cards, or find some cute ones: http://search.anthropologie.com/controller?N=0&Ntk=primary&Nu=p_group_id&Np=2&Ntt=recipe%20card http://search.paper-source.com/index/_/N-/Ntt-recipe%20cards You could also make the recipe box, or if she likes vintage... maybe you could hit some flea markets and find one. http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=252338

I received such a box at my bridal shower. Some of the people who contributed recipes have since passed away and so, it's become a little treasure chest of sorts. Belacqua
These are such lovely ideas. While I wouldn't ever complain about a genuinely offered gift, I'll admit that I would have preferred any of these to the crystal vases and pink satin sheets (really...) we got for wedding gifts.
