RainbowSprinkles
I'm looking for a simple craft to do on the first day of fall. Anyone have any suggestions? This would be for my craft loving 4th grader and for my first grader. If it's easy enough, my toddler will join in too! :-) Thank you for any ideas! :)

Amie
We made these last year, but we didn't tie them to a dowel rod. Super simple and even the less-than-two-year-old played along. And here is a "fancier" version. (Just google coffee filter leaves in images and you'll probably come up with all sorts.) Follow the link here to make a fingerprint tree with chalk (it is for weddings, but makes a cute craft--you could even draw your own tree) Or for something a little more complicated...a felt leaf garland (make up your own version). You could also make something like a wreath or garland out of pinecones/nature or cinnamon sticks. There are tons of wreath ideas out there if you start searching. And for a little something edible...acorn cookies. ;) That's all I can come up with for now--I'm not the most crafty person.
Susie in MS
A leaf wreath. Cut a circle out of a paper plate, and glue collected colorful leaves all around it.
Erica in OR
You (or your daughter) might wish to take a look at the Family Fun site to see if there's a craft that sounds interesting. They have them separated out by theme—the fall crafts are at http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/holiday-seasonal-crafts/fall-crafts/. NanceXToo
You can put leaves on a piece of white paper, then "spatter" with paint of different colors on top of and all around the leaves. Then, when you lift the leaves up, you'll see just the white outline of the leaves with the colorful paint spatters all around it 'outlining' it. You can do leaf or tree rubbings, too. RainbowSprinkles
Thanks ladies! You've given me some awesome ideas! I especially like the tissue apple, and the garland and the acorn cookies... I might have to have a fall party, lol. :tongue_smilie:
jlcejb6
We have: taken walks and collected different types of leaves and made mini books with leaf rubbings using fall colors. made wax leaves... later though when leaves are turning colors by dipping them in hot wax. painted pumpkins made fall goodie bags for relatives. Also, I really like to look at be different act normal, there are lots of fun ideas on there but there is soooo much to look at. You might save it for when you have time. helena
I like doing owl coloring pages, cutting them out and putting them up all over the classroom: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Sy08qLtYQXQ/S2pOFQ75a1I/AAAAAAAADzY/KzakzUrG20s/s1600-h/mr+owlie.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4io2ntcWT1I/TiYHTAl82tI/AAAAAAAAB28/IGon2vVc3b0/s1600/owl_embroidery.png http://www.thecoloringbarn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Bird-15.gif This paint looks especially neat on owl coloring pages: http://www.amazon.com/Do-Dot-Rainbow-Art-Set/dp/B00004W3Y4 Pine cone owls: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=208361.0 Autumn mobile: http://www.designsponge.com/2010/11/bird-and-bread-studio.html Leaf crown: http://www.ucreatewithkids.com/2010/11/tutorial-more-fall-leaves.html Shrunken apple heads: http://www.marthastewart.com/268080/shrunken-apple-heads I just scored on a stack of free Martha Stewart magazines, I'm hoping to find some good ideas in there too. :lurk5::lurk5::lurk5:

PeacefulChaos
Well, we're doing several over the course of the fall but the first one that comes to mind is using your child's arm and hand to make a tree, paint it, and then do fingerpaint leaves falling... Mama2Many4
What we're going to do is, I'm going to make a "tree" from construction paper. A life size tree for the wall and make the trunk and branches. I will have my children make up "leaves" in the colors of red, orange, yellow and brown in the shape of their hands. Then each day for the entire season of fall they will add the leaves and write on them what they are thankful for. Hope this helps.
