Joanne
It's adware - basically a virus that has attached to your computer. You need to scan.

LaxMom
Download SpyBot Search and Destroy, then run it. That should take care of the issue.
OnTheBrink
Now it's gone. I restarted my computer. Bizarre. According to MacRumors, there is no virus, etc, that can do that. Weird.
PentecostalMom
Another excellent program that comes in handy and is FREE, Malwarebytes. You can run & use the two simultaneously.
Rivka
Do you have Swagbucks? I just started noticing the same thing, and then saw that there was a new icon in my Swagbucks toolbar, a little red human figure. It is a "helpful" plugin called "coupon buddy" which puts those green text ads in everything you read. You can disable it by clicking on the little figure, selecting the "no" checkbox, and then restarting your browser.
