cdrumm4448
We are doing US History this year, but will start with Ancients again the following year. I like to link our vacations to our school cycle, so give me some suggestions for places to go that correspond to Ancients, please. Thanks! HollyBee
How far are you willing to go? We wrapped up our study of ancients this last year with two weeks in Italy. I am sure there are things closer to home, however. Not to mention more budget-friendly. :D (We had planned and saved for this trip for a very long time. It just happened to coincide with our ancients study.)
chepyl
Mexico and the Mayan or Aztec ruins. In the US you can go west and see the cliff dwellings or Northern Plains for the mounds.
Chris in VA
Can't go far? Museums, archeological digs (in the US) and festivals are your friend!
chai
We are tying this year's travel with our ancient's studies. We are doing a Mediterranean cruise that starts in Athens and ends in Rome. There are some really great deals out there right now (also for 2012), which is why we were able to do this.
Melinda in VT
Teotihuacan is amazing. If you fly into Mexico City, you can spend a day at the pyramids and a day at the excellent archeological museum in Mexico City. Southern France has excellent Roman ruins. The theater in Orange, the Pont du Gard, the arena at Nimes. And you can get a head start on the next year too. (Avignon, Cathar castles, etc.)
Momling
Two years ago, we got a cheap flight to London and stayed in a youth hostel and enjoyed several days at the British Museum and Museum of London -- lots of ancient history there! The Museum of Natural History in New York City is first rate! Ashworth Archaeological Site - Southwestern Indiana Wyandotte Caves - Southern Indiana - some artifacts dated to 8000 CE Pictograph Cave - Billings, Montana Have fun, Faith
mcconnellboys
Yeah, I was going to say any of the mound builder cultures throughout the Mississippi/Ohio valley areas would be good. There are several places you might visit in the state of Ohio....
Plink
Sight & Sound Theater is another great ancient related vacation destination.
