A home for their hearts
Looking for some fun games to help my dc practice their spelling words. What are your favorites?
Heather in MD
It's not a board game, but the Quiddler card game has been great for spelling at our house.
ElizabethB
I play a modified version of scrabble, you get more tiles and you can put your words anywhere. The person who uses up their tiles wins. I make sure to save some tricky letters if I am playing my son, he plays more often if he wins more frequently!
eternalknot
Hamgman isn't a board game, but we play it often - on the chalkboard, whiteboard, scratch paper, etc. It lends itself well to a variety of situations, such as plane rides and restaurants. It's also great because I can somewhat control the game working from vowel pairs or whatever specific spelling point we're working on. And, of course, Scrabble. Bassoonaroo
Another vote for Quiddler. We help each other out make words at the end of the round if needed.

aggieamy
Bananagrams. And as an added plus adults find it fun also.
RahRah
We do: Banangrams Scrabble with a few different sets of rules Hangman on the white board Boggle (but after shaking rotate all letters to face the same way) Word searches (paper based) Up for Grabs (mindware) ...and I create "cryptic words and phrases" that is a mix of math and words - DS solves the math, then fills in the letters that each answer represents to find out what the phrase, sentence or word is. Stratford
Nothing new to add....we do bananagrams, scrabble, and hangman around here. DS likes bananagrams the best, we have made up several variations of the game.
Satori
Aside from the great games listed, Word Rummy looks interesting. I can't wait to play Scrabble with my dd.
AndyJoy
Upwords--Scrabble-like but with a twist an easier to score.
texasmama
My kids all love Scrabble. I help them spell things correctly or determine if a word is actually a real word. It's a bit tedious for me, but they really enjoy it. (It is rather like playing against myself as four different players because even the 5 year old wants to play, and my boys want my help.:tongue_smilie:)
