ktgrok
I know about the religion, but not about day to day ettiquite. Would it be offensive if I contacted a local mosque and asked if they could arrange for a tour/field trip for our local homeschool group? I know that big churches sometimes do tours, but I don't know if that would be allowed in a mosque.
Rosie_0801
I'm not Muslim, but none I've met have been so uptight that asking a simple question like this would be taken as offensive. Rosie
Virg
I was wondering the same thing! We are doing ECC this year and i really wanted to do a couple of things like that.
Heather in Neverland
The mosques here do tours all the time.
elizabeth
Absolutely. As does the local Hindu Temple. They treated us like we were cousins they had not yet formally met. A bit standoffish but extremely nice in any event. I have found that if my approach is respectful theirs is twice so.
Farrar
Not Muslim, but we did this individually when we studied Islam and it was a great experience. When we called ahead, they even kindly invited us to come on a Friday when we could see Friday prayers, which really surprised me.
ktgrok
Thanks all! I just emailed the Islamic Society of Central Florida to see what they say. I was sad to see though that all the mosques are just storefronts, not stand alone pretty buildings. I guess it isn't just the Catholics that don't have pretty buildings in my area. ktgrok
Oh, I just found another Islamic Center, with it's own building and everything. I emailed them as well.
UmMusa
Muslim here, and no that wouldn't be offensive at all! Come on!!! Our local mosque has a monthly open house on Saturday afternoons for anyone in the area who'd want to come by and check it out. You'll be taking your shoes off at the door so plan accordingly :) and don't offer to shake hands with the men (if you're female, and vice versa for a male guest).
