Mynyel
by DD13. She was swinging her wooden sword in her room and hit the light fixture on the ceiling and broke it. I told her it was coming out of her allowance. To harsh? We rent so we are responsible.
Impish
I'd say she's old enough to know better than to swing a sword in the house. :001_huh: How often do you get to say something like that?! Another, "You know you're a homeschooler when..."
Jen500
If she is typically a responsible/conscientious kid I would just chalk it up as an accident. YMMV.
meggie
I do not think it was too harsh. She's old enough where she needs to start thinking through her actions because they do have consequences. Accident or no, they have consequences. Adults have car "accidents" all the time and they have to pay for them. It's the perfect consequence for not thinking about your behavior. flobee76
I don't think it is harsh at all. It has to be fixed either way. Our DD broke a bowl last year, after I told her several times to stop sliding it across the table between her hands. She didn't listen to me. So, it slid off the table and broke. I told her it was coming out of her allowance. 6 years old... and I don't think it was harsh.
Tammyla
That's a reasonable consequence. I've been know to run a chore / line of credit here to work off payments.
AK_Mom4
Here, the kid doesn't get an allowance and so was required to give up free time to help DH shop for and replace the broken light fixture. The kid was also required to clean up the broken glass himself because a 15yo should know better than to throw a baseball to his brother in the dining room. Sigh..... lionfamily1999
I started charging for lost books  I'm guessing she has money and this isn't a situation where she'd have to go get a job, so it's fine. They have to learn sometime.
