ScoutTN
I just read Mara. Great story, but too mature for my 6yo. What are my other options? The Golden Goblet? The Cat of Bubastes (audiobook)? I have a 1st grader and a 4yo tagging along. Thanks!
andreainia
My 6 year old LOVED Boy of the Pyramids by Ruth Fosdick Jones this year. We got it from Simply Charlotte Mason.
mom&nana
I read Golden Goblet with my 6th grader but I wouldn't read it with a 1st grader. In fact, I have younger kids and I made sure we were alone when we read through it. I'm very conservative and didn't like the constant mentioning of false gods. There is also violence and possibly a scene or two that could be scary for young children.
stripe
Are you looking for a novel? Or an informational book? Ancient Egypt (Modern Rhymes About Ancient Times) is not focused on their gods, just for your reference, but on other aspects of their culture. It's a bit irritating with the rhymes, to my taste. Maybe you can get this at your library, as it seems outlandishly priced at present.
Kristin Crow
Bill and Pete Go Down the Nile by Tomie de Paola ~ a 1st grader could probably read this unassisted The Egyptology Handbook by Emily Sands ~ 30 small lessons, a few pages each, lots of good pictures These were our favorites when we studied Egypt in 1st/2nd grade. SnMomof7
Temple Cat is a fun, light-hearted read that pokes some gentle fun at worshipping cats. Cat of Bubastes might be a bit much for your littles. We have a cool book Pharaoh's and Foot Soldiers. It is a high interest read about different jobs in Egypt - cartoony :). My children really like it.
