2squared
Thanks for the Lutheran website. My ideas and resources are all either Catholic or from Catholic sources. My SIL would not appreciate receiving a gift from a Catholic company, so I am struggling.

astrid
Wasn't the OP asking for 1st Communion gift ideas? I'm all ears because I need to get dh's nephew a (Catholic) communion gift... astrid
happi duck
I think you could ask the parents. In my experience, a Bible or cross are given either by the church or someone especially close to the child. Also, gifts that are specifically 'first communion' are often duplicated. I'd give a gift like I'd give for a birthday (toy, bookstore card, funny t-shirt etc.) but include a card with a written prayer/blessing. At our congregation 1st Communion and Confirmation are at the same time, but that's not the practice everywhere. So if it's just 1st Communion that we are celebrating, how old is he? I was figuring out gifts for 8th graders, but churches that do separate rites have quite an age range for 1st Communion.
