DarlaS
Call a vet? Just don't let your kids know you're willing to pay for teeth. Another poster's son was pulling his (not yet ready to come out!:svengo:) for tooth fairy money.

MeganW
I bet if you asked a dentist or oral surgeon they could hook you up.

silliness7
I bet if you asked a dentist or oral surgeon they could hook you up. I don't know but I think teeth might be treated as biohazardous waste. I don't know what the book is wanting you to do with the tooth. A purchased animal tooth might have acrylic over it or something that might be undesirable for their purposes. Your best bet may be asking some friends if they have any hanging around. Weird, I know. I don't keep them, on purpose but I used to have one or two for no particular reason. I'll make sure to hang on to them for when we get to that book. I also think there is no shame in skipping activities that just aren't feasible. Like catching bugs in the winter. We're doing Zoology I. :001_smile:
2cents
Call a vet? This is what I was thinking. One of my cats just had a tooth extraction and according to the vet they do a lot of those (particularly in cats) so I bet you could get one pretty easy. EKS
That has got to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. This is why I HATE elementary science programs! And I thought a 2L soda bottle was bad!
stripe
I agree. What a pain. http://www.chichesterinc.com/RealAnimalTeeth.htm has some teeth in the $3-5 range. http://www.skullsunlimited.com/ has some claws and more expensive teeth, and a "bag o small teeth" for $59. Snort. http://www.ehow.com/list_6397517_science-projects-tooth-enamel.html suggests using egg shells as a substitute for tooth enamel. Just please, please don't buy these. http://cgi.ebay.com/Real-False-teeth-Womens-Used-Upper-Plate-Study-/250805862528?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a6531c080 "I believe these were my grandmothers. Ginny May
I will call the vet. I wondered about that and thought you guys understand the weird stuff we have to ask for. So I thought I would see what you guys thought. I am worried if I buy something it would have something on it and would mess up the experiment. :001_smile: I would have one of the kids willing to put out teeth for money. So that is why I am not telling them:001_huh: I am really trying to do all of the experiments. We will see.:tongue_smilie: Thank you all for taking the time to let me know. :)
