Great Christian biographies? (for me)

Recommended Posts

I enjoy reading biographies of Christians. A few that I have enjoyed in the past include Dietrich Bonhoeffer by Eric Metaxas, The Heavenly Man by Brother Yun, Oswald Chamber's biography, and God's Smuggler about Brother Andrew.

Any other recommendations? I'm open to Christians of various denominations and periods in history, just nothing terribly gory or sensationalized (or overspiritualized where the people come across as unhuman and practically perfect).

Rees Howells: Intercessor by Norman P. Grubb is about a man who lived in WWII England.

A Severe Mercy by Sheldon Vanauken is written by a man who knew C.S. Lewis. It's the author's love story.

Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire by Jim Cymbala is the story of the Brooklyn Tabernacle.

The Cross and the Switchblade by David Wilkerson is very graphic, but very beautiful, too.

I really gained a lot from Heavenly Man!
