Suggestions for book/spine for plant studies in early elementary

We are embarking on a study of plants via Elemental Science this week, and although I have the recommended title Life of Plants: Plant Parts, I'm less than thrilled with it. Does anyone have a recommendation for the younger crowd (1st grade and K-ish)?

Thanks!

FWIW, I'm not thrilled with it either. I just couldn't find a better, in print substitute. Maybe one of these days I'll write my own ;). Until then, I'm subbing in to see if someone else knows of a gem I haven't found yet.

Yes! I love DK's Incredible Plants!

I also really like (and used) Scholastic First Discovery Books. I'm linking The Tree:

But I also used Fruit, Vegetables in the Garden, and Flower.

:iagree:

is a very nice book for littles and has a couple sections on plants.

If you can find a copy of David Attenborough's Private Life of Plants VCRs these are INCREDIBLE.

I think the best book for elementary botany is the 100-year-old volume Plants and Their Children by Mrs. William Starr Dana.

It is written in a conversational style directly to the child. It is a wonderful read aloud.

It is available as a used book on Amazon and other used book sites. You can look at it in its entirety on Google Books where it is under her maiden name, Frances Theodora Parsons.
