imeverywoman
I remember back when my kids were younger, I had glanced at threads about sleeping teenagers, but, sheesh! This is annoying beyond belief! Do any of you have different schedules? Schedules where your student may be studying from 5 or 6 pm until midnight? I need some reassurance, please. charlotteb
My son sleeps from 10pm to 7 am, so about 9 hours a night. However, he could definately sleep more if I'd let him!
Jodi-FL
has always needed lots of sleep (as a baby he'd climb *into* his crib, never out) but he generally gets about 9-10 hours a night. if he gets 8 or fewer, he needs a catch up day every 5-6 days or so (naps, getting to bed earlier or sleeping in later). jibaker103
My son sleeps from 10 pm to 8 am if I wake him up. If he wakes up on his own it is somewhere between 9 and 10. So I guess 10-12 hours. He is really grumpy if he gets less than 9 hours.
mcconnellboys
When allowed, my teen will sleep 10-12 hours. He doesn't get to do that very often....
QueenCat
Younger ds needs about 10 minimum. He is noticeably less productive on 9 or less. His pediatrician said the need for between 9 and 11 is normal until around age 20.
flyingiguana
My kids will sleep from midnight to noon, if they're on a good schedule. If they stay up too late, they'll sleep from 2AM to noon and be tired on only 10 hours of sleep. My 19 yr who's now in college does get on a more normal schedule during the semester, but she never gets enough sleep what with all her homework. 8 hours is not enough for her. 10 is a bare minimum to feel ok. I think this might be a good reason to not start kids on college in their mid-teens. A class or two might be doable, but a full schedule seems to conflict with sleep needs. Maybe my kids need more sleep than average. The fact that our schedules are almost completely off from one another is not a big problem. I get my work done in the morning, they do what they need to do on their own after I go to bed (well, except my college student who just works all the time). We meet in the middle for things they need my help on.
jibaker103
I forgot to add that since my ds is sleeping 10-12 hrs per night our homeschool schedule is suppose to be 9:30 am to 4:30 pm but is more like 10:30 am to 6:00 pm.
6packofun
My almost 17yo tends to sleep 9 hours, 10 if he can. He's been as cranky as a toddler lately when he gets less than 9, though, and it's annoying. lol
Mom22ns
I'm lucky if my nearly 14 yo will sleep 8. I wish all this sleepy teen thing would kick in for him.
