Question about crockpots and your countertop?

Recommended Posts

I leave my crockpot out, sitting on the cupboard, as I use it so often. I have it sitting in one spot on a glass cutting board. My countertop underneath where it sets has "heaved" upward, like the crock it getting hot continuously on the underside. It is in a corner area, where there is a miter cut, diagonally. I am getting new coutertop in the next couple weeks and do not want this to happen again. Is there anything you would suggest for setting the crockpot on, like the glass cutting board I already have, but something more heat resistant. I was wondering if a wood cutting board would be better or any other suggestions.

Thanks in advance....

I think the placement will help more than anything. With it being on the miter cut, moisture from the warmth of the crock pot is allowed seep into the miter. You may have inadvertently made it worse with the glass, trapping the moisture in.

I would just move it to an entirely sealed area, and perhaps change up the location occasionally?

I agree. The glass would also trap heat and distribute the heat directly to the countertop, rather than there being some air between the countertop and the crockpot. That's why crockpots have legs. I use my crockpot on my counter with nothing underneath it and have not had any problems with my countertops.

I've got two silicone heat pads (the kind you'd use to protect your table when putting a hot pot on it) under my crock pot. Seems to help. The instructions recommended putting something underneath the crock pot to protect the counter, so that's what I use.

It may also depend upon what kind of crockpot you have.
