ktgrok
Money is tight this holiday, and I think my daughter would love a soft rag doll. I have tons of scraps of fabric and yarn, but don't have a lot of sewing skill. Any directions anywhere, or tips at least?
Anne in CA
Martha Stewart used to have a tutorial on her website for Black Apple dolls. It wasn't a great pattern, and I had to play with it and be willing to make a couple of not so great dolls, but it worked. If she doesn't have it on her site I bet you could Google Black Apple Dolls for a tutorial somewhere else.
sparrow
My 8 yo daughter (now 9:)) used this pattern to make her first sewing project, a rag doll. It turned out super cute. She used fabric markers for the face and yarn for the hair.
fairfarmhand
my dd12 sewed these for her sisters for christmas with scraps. They turned out very cute. She altered the pattern and made it into a teddy bear for her brother too. http://www.make-baby-stuff.com/free-doll-pattern.html
~Tara~
my dd12 sewed these for her sisters for christmas with scraps. They turned out very cute. She altered the pattern and made it into a teddy bear for her brother too.http://www.make-baby-stuff.com/free-doll-pattern.html I just used this pattern to make a couple dolls for my dd. I did one as listed, using her pattern. Then the second I enlarged the limbs a bit. I shortened the leg pattern by about an inch ?? and used that for arms, then increased the leg width by about half, keeping the original length. I liked the modified doll much better. It's an easy pattern. I'm not a sewer, not anything detailed. I can sew a pillowcase, that's about it LOL (but don't expect that to be straight ;) ) http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=31142746&l=5a950e893f&id=1028635828 (if this works, I've never linked like this from fb before - this is the original pattern) and here's with my modifications http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=31149166&l=c6a70f7d61&id=1028635828

Great job, it's amazing how much difference subtle changes can make.
~Tara~
Thank you. Yes, amazing the difference. The first just didn't look well balanced/proportioned. Plus, I was thinking I could use this as a starting project for dd and she would need chunkier pieces to work with. The seam allowance on the original was minuscule. I couldn't imagine a beginner attempting it. Have fun! I've thoroughly enjoyed this project. :D
