website with simple directions to make a rag doll?

Recommended Posts

Martha Stewart used to have a tutorial on her website for Black Apple dolls. It wasn't a great pattern, and I had to play with it and be willing to make a couple of not so great dolls, but it worked. If she doesn't have it on her site I bet you could Google Black Apple Dolls for a tutorial somewhere else.

my dd12 sewed these for her sisters for christmas with scraps. They turned out very cute. She altered the pattern and made it into a teddy bear for her brother too.

I just used this pattern to make a couple dolls for my dd. I did one as listed, using her pattern. Then the second I enlarged the limbs a bit. I shortened the leg pattern by about an inch ?? and used that for arms, then increased the leg width by about half, keeping the original length.

I liked the modified doll much better.

It's an easy pattern. I'm not a sewer, not anything detailed. I can sew a pillowcase, that's about it LOL (but don't expect that to be straight ;) )

and here's with my modifications

I like your modified doll better too. Great job, it's amazing how much difference subtle changes can make.

Thank you. Yes, amazing the difference. The first just didn't look well balanced/proportioned. Plus, I was thinking I could use this as a starting project for dd and she would need chunkier pieces to work with. The seam allowance on the original was minuscule. I couldn't imagine a beginner attempting it.

Have fun! I've thoroughly enjoyed this project. :D
