missmoe
We're camping for Thanksgiving this year. I'm very excited about cooking over the fire. Anyone do this in the past and have some tips for me?
OrganicAnn
We used to go camping in the desert in Nevada over Thanksgiving. Such good memories. They would have a pitch in dinner at this warm springs we would camp at. I have no idea what was server. I would make steak kabobs, bake potatoes, & grilled veggies. You don't need traditional food. Have fun.
Chelle in MO
No way! I won't camp w/out running water, and it's shut off on Oct. 31. You have fun, though!
elfgivas
last year we were at racetrack playa for thanksgiving. we had stovetop stuffing, canned chicken, packaged gravy, tinned mixed veggies, and brandied cranberries we brought from home. very fun - enjoy! ann
missmoe
LOL! Chelle in MO. I use to live in MO--and you wouldn't have caught me camping there in Nov either. Actually, I don't know if there is a good time to camp there. Thankfully, we are in a warmer location right now. We will be camping in a wooded area within a 5 minute walk of the sand and surf of the Pacific Ocean. For food---non of us are attached to turkey. I think I will be preparing alot ahead of time and then reheating it over the fire or on the grill.
wapiti
I think I will be preparing alot ahead of time and then reheating it over the fire or on the grill. I would be tempted to slow cook something in a cast iron dutch oven over/on/in the fire, just for fun. Maybe an apple crisp?
LBS
Thanksgiving food.....make your dressing, rip all the meat off the turkey and make a casserole....or roast that turkey in a dutch oven. Fines herbes make it delish! Camping is cool! Have fun, LBS
scrapbookbuzz
Quite a few families from our church do. And they camp literally in the woods. No facilities. But alot of them have campers. We have a tent. I'm not sure I want to sleep on the ground all night - esp. if I expect to be able to move the next day!
keptwoman
We camp every year for Christmas. We don't do traditional Christmas food, we have bbq type food, salads, lots of fresh fruit with deserts and treats prepared ahead of time. mommaduck
Only if we wanted to freeze our tail ends off in a cramped and uncomfy tent, oy! We aren't one of the blessed ones that own a cabin in the Poconos or I'd consider it.

We have a 5 min. walk to the LAKE when we camp! Not quite the same! We like to camp in April and October--beautifully mild weather in Missouri (usually!). In fact, a little too warm when we went a few weeks ago. Have fun!
AHASRADA
Unless you're talking ice fishing or sleeping in an igloo....no, no camping here on Thanksgiving  Not that I would camp anyway, without a fully-loaded camping trailer, complete with microwave, TV, heat/AC, toilet and shower, etc. but that's just me. A vacation with fewer amenities/conveniences than home does not appeal to me ;).
