Night Elf
Okay, seriously. What really works for cleaning the grime off the stove? I have a gas stove and the area around the burners is really yuck. I've even tried a brillo pad and it simply will not come off. Is this normal? Sharon H in IL
I wonder if the old trick that we use to clean the oven racks would work: set the racks out in the grass overnight. The hot to cold then back again makes the metal contract and expand, breaking the bond between the metal and the burned on food. It might be worth a try.;)
Mallorie
This may not be a popular answer, but borax. I use a damp rag and some borax, and that takes it off. I have tried EVERYTHING before that. Just use gloves, and small amounts. You can make a paste of borax and water of it, too, and let it sit for a while to loosen it, then gently wipe it away. Whereneverever
Concentrated Dawn detergent cuts through grease really well.

Dawn in OH
:bigear: Same problem with gas stove. I think it's burnt on and there to stay till doomsday. Sprinkle baking soda and spritz with water. Let it sit a little bit. Apply more water and scrub with a nylon sponge and a bit of elbow grease. Depending how burnt on it is, it may take a few applications of water and sitting. For just dried on, not burnt stove top grime, spray a little white vinegar, let sit a few minutes, and wipe. I'm tired, is it burnt or burned? At the moment I really have no clue.
athena1277
It may not be the best thing to use on it, but i have used Barkeeper's Friend on mine.
