butternut squash--1 hour--still hard!!

Is this normal? It is about 9 inches long. I cut it in half, coated with butter, and placed cut side up in an inch of water, 350 degrees. Why isn't it done yet? :confused:

Me too. I would shave off the cut edge (because I'm assuming that maybe it's formed a hard skin?) and put it cut side down.

I also do cut side down.

But you can actually do it in the microwave much quicker. Just be sure to pierce the skin a whole bunch - probably less of an issue if it's cut in half.

Put the two sides back together and pop it in the microwave for 20 minutes. You'll have a cooked squash for sure! I cook mine cut side down in the oven too.

I'd put it cut-side down and *cover* it with foil to hold the moisture in; then stick it back in the oven.

I don't use the water.

I put it cut side up with cloves of garlic in the hole from the seeds.

i tend to cook 'em a bit higher ~ 400.

 

face down. bit of water - watch it so it doesn't leave on ya.

I've always put it face-down in the water, but I read that you don't need to with the butter. I guess I have to say that it does work that way. It took an hour and 45 minutes!!! I had an avocado never ripen, but instead develop mold, so I had it in the back of my mind that sometimes food doesn't soften when it's supposed to. :D Thank god it finally did.
