plain jane
If you blog or have pics of a Nile river model that your kids have made, could you post it here? I'd love to see the different ideas. Thanks.
Satori
Here's when we first started the project: http://satorismiles.com/2010/01/21/egyptians-lived-on-the-nile-river/ A peek at how they were growing: http://satorismiles.com/2010/01/27/sotw-our-nile-river-reeds-are-growing With full grass: http://satorismiles.com/2010/02/01/family-craft-night-ancient-writings/

nd293
I think I've managed to attach a picture of the Nile River cake we made years ago - a rectangular cake iced in sand-colour, green icing close to the river bed. The Nile was gouged out and flooded with runny blue icing. The pyramid was made from sugar cubes. Edited to add the photo of our "grown" Nile River - not as nice as some of the other samples shown, but because we used home-made compost for the soil, we ended up with some tomato plants, which I think made pretty effective palm trees! FairProspects
Here are the pics from when we created it: Building the Nile River And here is a pic from a couple of days ago now that the grass has grown. The boys LOVED this project and keep checking to see if the Nile has "flooded" each day.
NanceXToo
http://nancextoo.livejournal.com/124469.html I put pics of that project, along with a few other SOTW projects, on my SOTW review page.

Tiberia
I can't post a picture because we ate our Nile project. We made a giant sugar cookie and used colored frosting to paint in the bodies of water (Nile, part of the Med. Sea, part of the Red Sea). It looked good and tasted great. We'll be doing more geography cookies in the future!

3peasinapod
That's good to know about grass seed being too old. I love the edible Nile Rivers! These are so awesome, and I can't wait for the girls to experience this too! That means we better get going instead of taking a huge break!:001_smile:
