Tap
I don't drink wine but dh does. I didn't notice that he had an open bottle on the counter before he left town for a few days. I usually freeze his left overs on day 4 and use it whenever I need it. Will it be too far gone?
BanyanTreeMama
It's for cooking, so you should have no problem.
Firefly
:iagree: I've done this before and not had a problem.
Peela
I dont drink much but I would taste it and if it tasted ok I would drink it, and if it tasted a bit vinegary, I would cook with it.
homeschoolally
I'd use it.:001_smile:
Greeny
My rule is: I never cook with wine I don't find suitable for drinking. This includes bottles that have been open for 6 days ;) Good cooking is all about using quality ingredients.
Jumping In Puddles
I would absolutely use it.

ChrisOR
So what's the expiration --- for using as a cooking wine --- on an opened bottle of red wine sitting in the fridge? (I have one that's been there for weeks.)
HistoryMom
I don't think wine actually goes bad within that time frame. The alchohol inhibits any bacteria growth. I'd drink or cook with it, no problem. Then again, a bottle of wine usually doesn't last that long around here. ;)
StephanieZ
Absolutely. Wine won't go really "bad" for a long time, unless maybe you have it in a really, really hot place. We use leftover wine for cooking indefinitely; we almost always have leftovers open in the fridge (white) and cabinet (red); it often sits for weeks before using it; we've never thrown away wine! Rivka
Taste a little sip and see if it's gone to vinegar. Some wines last a long time when opened, and others go vinegary really quickly.
