dsmama
My girls love Starfall -- I let them play a little bit each day on school days when feasible. We don't want them on all kinds of sites, and so their internet usage is limited to things like Starfall, PBS KIds, etc. But I imagine there are other sites out there that are fun and safe but also might throw in occasional phonics, math, art, etc.
melissel
My girls love this site: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/ There have been a few threads on this lately. If I can dig them up (I may have bookmarked them) I'll link them here for you. ETA: Hmm, the ones I'd bookmarked were more for pre-K, but I also remembered this one: http://www.funbrain.com/ My DD7 loves the math games on there. HTH! Farrar
I strongly second Poisson Rouge - especially for younger kids. We've also played with Learning Planet and Fun Brain, but I'm pretty sure that they both have ads, so just be aware. Also... http://www.speakaboos.com/stories/favorites http://www.nga.gov/kids/kids.htm And my kids like to watch the free video every week on Brainpop Jr.

LaurainMD
Ooh, I'm enjoying all these suggestions, but didn't see my favorite listed: American Girl! Lovely, thoughtful games, well-designed, with a wide range of skill levels. There are things for pre-readers as well as games for learning Spanish, and everything in between. Very nicely put together, and the biggest plus for me is that the background music is lovely classical and folky sounding music, as opposed to the screeching music found on most "kids" websites.
