OnTheBrink
My dd can not deal with anyone dying in books. This includes animals (which rules out Black Beauty, Misty of Chincoteague and other good books!) So, before I traumatize her, will we find any death in MSotM? Mom2legomaniacs
I don't recall that anyone did. Ds said no as well. You should be safe.
OnTheBrink
Thank you! Dd can't even watch the animal protection league commercials without breaking down in tears. Very sensitive heart, this child.
Kelli in TN
He hunts animals for meat and their hides. So, those animals die. Does that count?
OnTheBrink
Oh dear. It might. I can't tell her when we eat venison, because deer are cute. (Cows and chickens aren't, I guess)

Cindyg
Who dies in Misty of Chincoteague? There is a teary part, but I don't remember any death.
OnTheBrink
In the first chapter, 5 of the 19 mares drown when the ship wrecks. This detail will not go unnoticed. *sigh*

Ann@thebeach
Yes, Frightful, his pet hawk, gets shot by a hunter. He's very upset about it and the hunter is not very sympathetic. It's such a wonderful story though!
unsinkable
Yes...I died (figuratively)...of boredom when I read it. Also, my ds never ate "pig or cow" once he found out that's where pork and beef came from. At 8 y.o., he stopped eating poultry, too.
