Happy2BaMom
I really enjoyed reading this article. It is not concerning homeschooling, but I thought the parallels between having solitude enough to think (as being critical to becoming a leader) and what we can provide our kids at home was very worthwhile. Dandelion
Interesting article - thanks for sharing! It does relate well to homeschooling. I'll be passing it along to DH too (he's a West Point grad so he'll enjoy the fact that this was a lecture delivered there).
laughing lioness
Thank-you for posting this. Very timely and very related to education. From my bog side-bar: The Smithsonian Institution's RECIPE for GENIUS and LEADERSHIP: (1) children should spend a great deal of time with loving, educationally minded parents; (2) children should be allowed a lot of free exploration; and (3) children should have little to no association with peers outside of family and relatives. ~ H. McCurdy, "The Childhood Pattern of Genius."

fmont6bu
Wow I loved it. I am teaching Heart of Darkness next year and will include this in my students reading. So much hits home and makes me want to quit feel sorry for long chats with good friends and back porch sitting. I also feel vindicated for homeschooling. Thank you sooo much for posting it.
