Renee in NC
I need to replace the one here because it gets "stuck" on and isn't accurate (we set it at 70 to get 78, but sometimes it fluctuates.) I think our pwer bill would go down quite a bit by changing it to a programmable one. Can I do this myself?
Jean in Newcastle
You can get one at a place like Home Depot and do it yourself. They come with directions.

Just remember to turn off the electricity before messing with the wires. ;)
QueenCat
We bought ours at prothermostats.com . Husband replaced two in about 20 minutes. Programmable, love it! Edited April 25, 2010 by CathieC two, not to
alpidarkomama
I'm not handy at all, but found it really easy to do.

Tess in the Burbs
I have done this myself and didn't blow up the house ;-) Just label everything as you take it off. We didn't end up with the right colors when hooking up and had to figure out what had been where and such. You can do this!
Hathersage
Our eletric company installed our programmable thermostat with their energy saver program. During high demand times they cycle our air conidtioner for 4 hours, but we get the thermostat for free. *Jen*
My other word of advice would be to take a digital picture of how the wires were attached to the old thermostat. We got a programmable one that ended up being broken. Our Home Depot didn't have another one in stock so we had to wait a couple of days until they got more in. Thankfully we were able to look back at the pictures and rewire the old one to use until we could try again with a new one.
