annabanana1992
Coke makes a Kosher Coke at Passover with sugar instead of HFCS. Look for the yellow cap...
sparrow
We're not big on pop (sorry, it's a regional thing:D), but we have picked up some of the Pepsi and Mountain Dew Throwback made with sugar.
mrsrevmeg
We found some Dr. Pepper like that one day. I wish that all sodas were real sugar. Not that they are great for you, but to have now and then it would be nice!
Snickerdoodle
Sugar (sucrose) is 50% fructose, 50% glucose HFCS 55 (mostly used in soft drinks) is approximately 55% fructose and 45% glucose
hornblower
Sugar (sucrose) is 50% fructose, 50% glucose HFCS 55 (mostly used in soft drinks) is approximately 55% fructose and 45% glucose Hmmmm, that doesn't seem like a huge difference. Is it? From a body biochem standpoint?
kokotg
Hmmmm, that doesn't seem like a huge difference. Is it? From a body biochem standpoint? Depends on whom you ask. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/03/10/eveningnews/main6286934.shtml But there is a question whether our bodies metabolize high-fructose corn syrup differently than table sugar. Scientists at UC Davis are conducting a long-term study to answer that. Results are expected by the end of this summer. Until then, call it high-fructose corn syrup or call it sugar, but don't call either one a healthy choice. Completely anecdotal, but I became a believer in the HFCS is evil theory after noting, over and over again, that my oldest child is completely unbearable after eating pancakes with fake syrup. Real maple syrup does not have the same effect. My friend who teaches preschool confirms my observation. I don't freak out about a tiny bit of HFCS getting into our diets, but, well, I certainly spring for the real maple syrup these days. Snickerdoodle
I would caution against a false sense of security that one sweetened beverage is better than another. In the end you are still consuming unnecessary simple sugars.
Joaly
Also, you can get Coke made with regular sugar in the Spanish foods section of the grocery store. In our area, it is available year-round.
annabanana1992
Don't worry - I don't put any security in sugared beverages of any sort... :001_smile:
Tap
The Costco here sells it in the case. 24/$20.
