BamaTanya
If you baked an Italian casserole (pasta, tomato sauce, cheese) for a church dinner and there were 3 hrs between the time you pulled it from the oven to your return home when it went straight into the refrigerator, would you eat the leftovers? tia
Gander
I would eat it, but I wouldn't let my kids eat it.
5sons
If there is no meat in it I think it would be OK. But if you get sick I take back what I said.:D Just kidding. Was there a cover on it or not during the three hours? Kristen
hsm
I wouldn't be afraid of food poisoning. I might be concerned about people breathing their germs into for three hours. I only re-eat pot luck food if the circle of attendees was small and I knew not harboring anything nasty.
BamaTanya
Was there a cover on it or not during the three hours? Kristen It probably was covered for 1.5 of those hours -- before the actual serving of the dinner and on the way home. :D
Jkodman
My mantra is always - "When in doubt throw it out!" But I am a germaphobe. To me nothing is worth the cost if it is bad.

I'd have to have been at the potluck to see. The sitting out part doesn't faze me at all though.

So, to answer your question, I would not eat it, but not because of the time it sat out (if that was the only issue, I'd eat it for sure!) - I wouldn't eat it because so many other people touched it, breathed on it, maybe some spit flew into it while they were talking... and THEN it sat for hours...:ack2:. Daisy
This time of year, yes, I would eat it. In time after about March 15th and no. It would be too hot here for anything to survive 3 hours out of the oven.
IsabelC
I would eat it, as long as it doesn't have meat in it. And I would reheat it to piping hot and steamy temperature, and then cool slightly, as opposed to warming it only to the temp you want to eat it at. jlovebaker
I had food poisioning after a funeral once - older church ladies serving mayo and meat cuts. Terrible and I never get sick. Not worth it - no how - no way.

There have been many times around here that dinner has been out of the oven for three hours before the leftovers make it into the refridgerator, especially if we're entertaining and taking our time chatting over the meal. As others have said, I would have more concern over how the food might have been handled by others. Though if I ate it there, I wouldn't have a problem eating the rest at home later. Peela
I'd eat it, but then, I can't remember when I've had food poisoning except in Asian countries. I would just reheat it really well when I was going to eat it- and keep it at a high temperature for a good couple of minutes. .
texasmama
I would eat it, but I am not skeered of much. :)
Brilliant
I'd eat it, but then, I can't remember when I've had food poisoning except in Asian countries. I am always in the "Yes, I'd eat it" camp...but then, I've never ever had food poisoning! I wonder if my opinion would change if I had?
