rookie
This is driving me totally batty. He started this sometime last year and it has become an issue. He did not do this before. I do not know why it started. He says he does not notice. He has so much saliva in his mouth that bubbles start at the corners of his mouth and he has difficulty speaking clearly. I remind him a 100 times a day to "swallo." He does and a few minutes later he has another mouthful Did I mention it is driving me totally batty? Any ideas? Is there some medical condition I should be looking into? He is, otherwise, perfectly healthy.
Laurie4b
I would ask your doctor or dentist. It's normal for someone not to notice what they are doing with their saliva--it's an unconscious process, so if it's accumulating, I would guess there is something medically wrong. Erica in OR
DD did this for awhile this year. It seemed connected to her recent concern about germs and such. Eventually she stopped with reminders, and talking to her about her concerns. Erica in OR
lulubelle
My ds 7 was doing this recently - I think it was just for fun. He would drool frequently! It was driving me crazy. I haven't noticed it in a couple of months. Just some bizarre behavior for no good reason imo.
Remudamom
You could ask a doc or dentist but in my experience with sons and brothers they can do some really weird things, my brother would constantly "spit out germs". It'll probably phase out.
LibraryLover
Sounds to to me like your child has allergies and/or is a nose -breather. This most likely has nothing to do with him with letting 'saliva build up in his mouth'. He needs to see an allergist/ears/nose/throat specialist. good luck! dirty ethel rackham
Does this child have any sensory issues? I noticed that many of the kids I know with sensory stuff do funny things with their saliva. Ds13 makes lots of mouth noises with his excess saliva and it drives me nuts. I remind him that it is a rude noise along the lines of chewing with one's mouth open and chomping gum.

talexand
My 8 year old seems to produce a lot of saliva or he just doesn't swallow enough, I'm not sure. I really only notice it when he talks. He says something then does a funny slurp and swallow and then speaks some more. Its like he the saliva builds up too much when he is talking. I don't even mention it to him. I doubt he's even aware of it and I think it will go away on its own. I don't want him to be self conscious about it. I hadn't thought about mentioning it to the doctor. Maybe I will but I doubt anything will come of it.
