MamaBearTeacher
I have a bad cold and last night my throat was so lumpy and dry and I was really congested and I hardly slept at all all night. What can I do about the lumpy and dry feeling so I can sleep tonight?
caitlinsmom
This happens to me whenever I am sick. I drink licorice tea that I bought at Fred Meyer. It has a weird coating feeling that keeps your throat feeling smooth. Good luck. I hope you feel better soon. :)
justamouse
Drink hot water, or hot water with lemon and honey. HOT.
kalanamak
I stick a N'ICE in my cheek and go to sleep. Haven't choked yet.
LaxMom
I made onion-honey cough & sore throat syrup with the kids in my herb class today - cut up onion, cover it with honey, simmer for 30-40 minutes. You can keep it in the fridge indefinitely and use it by the spoonful to soothe your throat. (I like licorice tea, too. ;))
Suzanne in ABQ
I always wrap a warm scarf around my neck (or wear a turtleneck sweater) to sleep when I have a cold. It helps with the dryness somehow, and keeps it from hurting.
lovetobehome
Another idea...I gargle with salt water, helps more than you think (even better to do it through the nose, too) and then I sleep with vitamin C tablets in my cheek...the sweetened kind. If I am truly desperate, I take a small amt of Benedryl...it dries me up and makes it so I can sleep.
EKS
Cranberry juice mixed with lemonade does wonders.
lionfamily1999
Drink hot water, or hot water with lemon and honey. HOT. Another idea...I gargle with salt water.... Those and sometimes if it's really bad, I'll take a shot of vinegar. It tastes terrible, but it really clears out my throat. If vinegar is too far off for you, vodka will do the trick too (dh uses that).
kalanamak
I forgot: suck on a baby aspirin just before bed. Not fun, but helps my throat when it is very bad. I hate the "numbing" lozenges....numbs my stomach and then it is queasy.
kewb
Teaspoon of honey. If that is not enough a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar followed by honey. I try to drink lots and lots of water throughout the day.
