Jen500
Are there any good websites or other resource to help explain neg x neg numbers? Ds is going through the Key to Algebra book 1 and it uses a football field explanation...he doesn't know much about football and it's confusing. myfunnybunch
Ask Dr. Math Negative Times Negative is What? If you Google "negative times a negative" you'll get several choices. :-) Good luck. My oldest daughter struggled with this for a while then had an "Aha!" Cat

JoyfulMama
I looked at the recommended posts, and although they seem like adequate answers, the one explained to me many years ago was much simpler. Not really an explanation about, it, but just the process, or maybe just a way to remember it: -x-=+ because you need two - put together to make a + even numbers of -s make even +s, but uneven -s make uneven -s Don't know if that is confusing or not written this way... Elizabeth Conley
An odd number of negative real factors results in a negative product. An even number of negative real factors results in a positive product. Learn it once and have it for a lifetime, no matter what the variables or number of factors. lgm
http://www.homeschoolmath.net/teaching/integers.php & scroll down It was easier for my children to understand using the number line rather than pos./neg. counters or a football field analogy. http://www.aft.org/pubs-reports/american_educator/fall99/amed1.pdf p. 4 & 5 for you...
