I do text my brother in the States, I feel a lot more connected being able to send him a message I know he'll get right away (unlike email, where I have to wait until he checks his mailbox). I couldn't imagine texting without a QWERTY keyboard. Was that possibly part of the problem? When I have my dh's phone I won't text -- too weird. The QWERTY makes it much easier. We host a Superbowl party every year, and the kids text right thru the watching of the game--one showed me how she could text (non-QWERTY) w/o looking!
