dancer67
Currently, I am taking Omega-3, Garlic, and Grapeseed Extract. Since I live in New England, we get very little sun and it is to cold to be outside. I had "heard" that taking Vitamin D could be good. Plus I have borderline Hypertension and heard that it might good for that as well. I saw a bottle of Vitamin D3, 1000 IU. But I do not know what that means,(D3 and IU??) and can I take that with the other supplements I am taking?
newbie
I am just guessing, but I think D3 is a form of D and IU is International Units.

IU stands for International Units - it's the measurement for used for vitamins among other things (kind of like mg = milligrams). D3 is the form of vitamin D which is in your pill. As for you last question, I *think* taking D with your other supplements is OK; but, if I were you, I'd double check that with a more reputable source than me. :tongue_smilie:
dancer67
Is D3 the same as Vitamin D??
Tangerine
D comes in forms, just like B vitamins. D3 is a form of Vit D.
dancer67
So now I am not so sure I got the right one. I think I just should have gotten regular Vitamin D. I didn't know D came in different forms. Thank you!
Tangerine
I'm no expert, so you may want to double check me! My understanding is that D3 is the form of vitamin D manufactured by your body when it is exposed to the sunlight.
calledtobehome
I'm no pro either but I've been told that Vitamin D3 is the best form to get. I have decided to get D3. Here is a article to read: http://www.ehow.com/about_5036286_vitamin-d.html
dancer67
Thanks for posting this article! I know that many people suffer from seasonal depression. And many of us who live in cold climates are not outside very much. I wonder if Vitamin D3 is linked to a better "mood" in the winter months? Something to research. Jean in Newcastle
D3 is the "correct" form of vitamin D to take because it is used by your body the best. 1000 IU is a good dose for a normal person. (The RDA is 400 IU but common consensus now-a-days seems to be that it should be higher).
