Elizabeth Conley
Bunnicula by James Howe (Quite a few in this series) Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney (3 in the series, 4th on the way) Ben and Me by Robert Lawson Oddly, my 10 YO son enjoys collections of Bloom County comics (Berke Breathed. His favorite is The Night of the Mary Kay Commandos. Since they are targeted to adults, rich in vocabulary and contain a great many social and political nuances for us to discuss, I don't mind. I know there's a great many more, but the titles escape me right now. Happy hunting!

lisabees
I asked a similar question the other day... http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128566 You may want to check out Louis Sachar, Carl Hiasson, Dan Gutman, Andrew Clements. I am not sure what grade level your son is on, but there is an author Wendelin Van Draanen who writes comedy series like Shredderman. I have not read any of these however. Kidlit
I think Richard Peck's novels (at least the ones I've read) are hilarious! Ten might be a little on the youngish side (depending on your ds, of course), but I'd definitely keep Peck in reserve!
lauracolumbus
Anything by Jon Scieszka--esp. his autobiography. His books might be for a little younger age (the truck books definitely are), but he was appointed the first children's book laureate. Caitilin
Any suggestions? Little Wolf's Book of Badness by Ian Whybrow, and the sequels. My son enjoyed Pippi Longstocking, and I think The Brothers Lionheart, Ronia, Robber's daughter, and Rasmus the Vagabond by Lindgren are all good. Also The Hobbit. The Indian in the Cupboard series. creekmom
Thanks for all the great suggestions! A lot of these books/authors are new to me. He is currently reading How to Train Your Dragon - Heroic Misadventures of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock. Don't you just love it when you find a book they can't put down!
