  1. LOL.........I got one back in Public High School, so I know the feeling.;)
  2. When was this instituted? And where di you read this? My BP has never, ever in my whole life been 110/70. I would probably be dead that being that low.:tongue_smilie:
  3. Sounds like the flu, but I wouldn't rule out Mono. (even as an adult), or even tonsillitis(if you still have them) If you continue to feel this way after 3 or 4 days, or get worse, see a Dr. And just a note. Do not take any aspirin products until you know what is wrong. Stick with Ibuprofen/Motrin. Tylenol as a second choice. Tylenol has a high incidence of liver problems. Hope you feel better soon!
  4. Just a warning. Those drugstore/Wal-Mart BP machines are enough to send you running to the ER. I checked mine at Wal-Mart and at CVS and one told me I had a BP reading of 162/101, and the other said 158/95. OMG!!! Well, digital BP machines can be very innacurate. I have a regular BP cuff here at my house and I check mine regularly. My father had undiagnosed high BP, and suffered a brain aneurysm at the age of 48.(I am 42 now). He survived, but with permanent brain damage and paralysis. My mother was the same way. Last year she finally went in for a check up and her BP was 210/110!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So mine runs up and down, the "high" end has been 158/90. And then it will run as low as 128/80. At one time, years ago, the BP "norm" was 140/90. But the AHA lowered it to 120/80. Nobody should take BP meds if you are borderline. If your pressure consistently runs high, such as top number being greater then 160 and bottom number(which is the most important since this is your resting heartbeat) runs over 90, then a change in diet and/or meds might be in order. Also, just because your pressure is high at a Dr's office, doesn't mean it is that way at home. There are just way to many variables that can effect your BP. Which is why if you are borderline(like me), you should have a cuff at home and monitor it every day. Please get it checked. It takes 2 minutes.:D
  5. Okay, I did some reading up on this, so it looks like we will go ahead with the vax for her. She was fine the last time(but she was only a year old or so then I think) She is going to scream her head off. I think I will have daddy take her. LOL.......... I have not had a tetanus shot since 1982. I had a very bad reaction to it then, and I have not, nor will I plan on getting one any time soon!!!(Not to mention they hurt like the dickens!!) Thanks!
  6. My 11 yo is due for her 2nd Tetanus shot In October. Last one was 10 years ago. We did vax all of our children, but now I am very leary of immunizations. Should I have her get the shot? Is it dangerous if I don't? Have any of you opted out of this vax? And if so, why? I am not looking for a pro/con immunization debate. Just information on the Tetanus. Thanks!
  7. Massachusetts is leaning very heavily towards this right now. Making it a "law". What would I do? Keep my child locked away if I had to. And good thing my DH owns guns.
  8. I read this. I do not like these new vaccines AT ALL. My girls will not get this vaccine, ever. Very sad.
  9. I am the queen of mole removal. I have had 24 moles removed in total. I had three removed when I was 16. Back in April I had 12 done at once(and all with stitches) and then the remaining 9 done in June. 4 were punched out and the remaining was stitches. Piece of cake. Even the stitches weren't bad. In case you are wondering, I had several atypical moles, and I had a plastic surgeon take them off. Tell hubby nothing to worry about. Chances are good if it is not suspicious they may even freeze it off. :)
  10. What are the top important things a child should know in Grade 5 Math, before going to grade 6?? I know there is "fluff" in lots of Math books. We have your basic operations of course. Addition, subtraction, division, and subtraction. Then we have fractions/decimals/percents. Do we really have to go over estimating, roman numerals, place value over and over and over again every year?? There just seems like there is so much "stuff" in Math books that we/they may not ever use. What do you feel is the most important thing a child should know in Grade 5? Well, besides "everything". I hope that question made sense??
  11. Well, I have lived in New England all my life. I am SICK of leaves!!! Who cares about leaves changing, and leaves. All it brings is a big mess, slick roads when it rains, and all the slow driving leaf peepers!! LOL...... I hate the cold, the ice, the slush, the salt that rots out my car years before it's time, closing my pool only after using it for like 8 weeks, the heavy bulky ugly winter coats that make me look fatter then I already am:tongue_smilie:, your ears freezing from the cold, walking the dog and practically killing yourself on the ice. Let's not forget the lovely HILLS that we live on that the Dept of Public Works never seem to get to, and unless you have a 4 wheel drive, you better just park your car, and huff it up the hill. Oh, and slipping on MORE ice.:001_huh: Ummm, yea. I am pretty much sick of the weather, can you tell???:D MA is sooooooo liberal(sorry to any liberals out there). But I can't take it. We have people lighting themselves on fire protesting(seriously), legal Gay marriage, and the welfare here is through the roof. Oh, let's not forget the MANDATORY health insurance we have to have(Thank you MITT ROMNEY,,,ugggghhh) Taxes are crazy. We are taxed on everything. Sales tax, state income tax, excise tax. Own a farm? Pay a tax on your horses. The conservation laws are crazy. Got a little puddle in your yard? Can't build anything within 300 ft, because those little tadpoles might croak. So, time for a change I think!! The sooner the better. I just have to find the "right" place. Thanks for all the help!!
  12. I get it now.................wow, that was a "duh" moment.....And yes, I corrected her lesson, and she did fine. It was me who was wondering why she was doing that. ohkkllllleeeeyyyy dohkllleeeyyy then......Thanks ladies:blush:
  13. We are in EG 6 now. This is really our first "formal" year of grammar. I feel like an idiot asking this, but they have my daughter crossing out prepositional phrases in the first few lessons. Why??? What is the point of this? {{hiding under a rock now}}
  14. I am not so sure on that bug situation...LOL. I am going to look into the areas that everyone has mentioned. Actually, there are others who have mentioned TN. That was another state on my list. I hear everyone rave about that state as well. So maybe a s/o thread is called for..:-) Wow, you ladies are amazing, thanks for all of that information. Oh and before I actually decided to make a move there(ar anywhere), I would make sure I visited first!! We just got a pop-up camper, and we would love to take it and do some traveling in the spring.
  15. OMG, I live like 20 minutes from Longmeadow!(Ritzy town, ohh la la). DH's grandparents lived their all their lives. If it wasn't in MA, it would be one of my choices to live.
  16. Well, looks like I have a lot of places to look into. This is obviously a very, very big decision. And it isn't like we have ANY family that lives there. We only have friends that live in Flower Mound. People keep talking about bugs. Okay, dare I ask? What kind of bugs? The only bugs we deal with here, are ants, bees, wasps, mayflies, and lightning bugs. Nothing huge or poisonous...LOL. Tornadoes scare me. Never saw one in person, but I have seen movies and it scares the daylights out of me. When it storms here, we can get bad ones, lots of lightning, but we never have to worry about a siren going off...LOL Thanks all:D
  17. So, where would I even start looking??? TX is HUGE!!! Hmmm, okay, Maybe if I mentioned what I am looking for it might be easier. We would need to rent a house. No apt though. Could not buy a home right away. 4 Br/2BA and one that would allow our dog. Can't really come up with a rental price since not sure about job situation. I can tell you that rentals here for homes are over $2,000 a month for a 3 br. About 2500.00 a month for a 4br. So preferably LESS..........LOL.(We own a house now, but we would not be in a position to buy right away) So prices of homes not through the roof. Preferably in an area that is not high on the Tornado list. ...lol Not in a city, but in a town that can be in close proximaty to shopping, colleges, museums etc....(within a half hour ride). Parks!!!!! We live in an area with no parks at all!! Even though I homeschool, a town where there are excellent schools, and a choice of private and Christian Schools. LOW crime. Republicans......LOL. Warm weather and no snow!!!!! Okay, does this place exist in TX?
  18. If all you TX residents could chime in on this. It seems that everyone I have spoken to, online or not, LOVE TX. Why? Besides homeschooling, why is TX so great? I wold love nothing more then to get the heck out of MA. I have lived here almost all my life. What I really hate, is the politics, the taxes, and the WEATHER!!! We have a very short summer. We maybe have TWO weeks of very hot weather(in the 90's), and that's it. Summer is supposed to start here in June, and end Sept 21. HA. We may get some 70-80degree days. Now it is the end of summer. We went from 80 degree days to BLAMO, 60 degree days, and in about another month we could actually have SNOW. YUCK YUCK YUCK. I am a warm weather girl. I love my sandals and shorts. I love to go outside without freezing my petushie off, scraping ice, shoveling snow, driving in bad weather, being cold all the time. UGGGH. My 11 yo dd BF just moved to Flower Mound TX. Anyone know about that area? And what about jobs in TX. Is it just as bad as everywhere else? Cost of living? My husband is in the electrical field. I never could figure out how to relocate. What do you tell employers when you apply? That you are relocating to the area? As some of them may not like that idea at all. I know when people ask me about MA, I say STAY AWAY!!! Funny, when I ask people about TX, they say GREAT!!! Just wondering why?????? I would love to get out of here, did I say that already?? LOL
  19. I live in Massachusetts and we are an "approval" state. Compared to NY and PA I would rather be here. With that said, I hate this state in general. No offense to anyone, but I am sick of the liberal way of thinking here, and everyone feels they are"entitled". Politics are bad, climate is bad, taxes are bad, cost of living is bad. Makes me wonder why I am still here.
  20. I am glad I ran across this thread. DH and I have been discussing foster/adopt for a while now. My best friend works for Child Social Services, and is in charge of the adotpion process. So I have spoken to her about the process. My question is, has anyone fostered and then adopted a teenager? A girl specifically. We want to adopt a pre-teen. Probably around 11-13 yo. We have raised two teenagers(well I still have one dd that will be 17,oldest son is 19) and our youngest is 11, a girl. We did have lots of trouble with our 16 yo, but we got through it. Even with all the issues, my husband and I think teengagers are terrific. Yes, they have their problems, no question. But they also deserve a family. Because I have a younger daughter, and a teen daughter, I would only foster/adopt an older girl. Any experience in the teenage adoptions?
  21. Nobody seems to like A New World Of Adventure. I wonder why?
  22. Are you sure that tooth needs a root canal? Did he do an X-Ray? Sounds like you have an absessed tooth. Stay on that medication, and you should be feeling better in a few days. I would gt back to that Dentist ASAP though. Hope you feel better soon!
  23. These were all very helpful responses. Thank you. I was wondering, how much sugar do you REALLY need to cut out of your diet? The one and only thing I cannot give up, is my 4-C green iced tea, powdered mix. I can drink coffee with my sweet n low, but I just love that green tea. I hate that fake sugar taste, and I hate water.
