I was thinking that it might be cool if we posted our favorite speakers from this convention season (or previous ones, for that matter). Be sure to share which convention you saw them at, that way others can purchase the cd if possible. I'll go first-
CHEA Long Beach
Andrew Pudewa- "Teaching boys and other kids who would rather make forts all day"- This was an all around GREAT seminar. It had all of the elements. I felt like I gained knowledge about the real physiological differences between boys and girls and I was given a real strategy to approach education differently.
Voddie Baucham- "Harvard or Heaven"- Voddie was great to listen to. I don't agree with all of his views, but he gave strong arguments and lots of food for thought.
Todd Wilson- "Taming the techno-gadgetry beast"- This was a super convicting seminar. If you ever feel like you spend too much time on these boards (or facebook, or yahoogroups, ect), you should really listen to this.
I think CHEA will have mp3s available at some point soon, if not already.

We do sleepovers. Like everything else, it's generally taken on a case by case basis. It generally comes down to how well we know the parents and the child. My the bulk of my dd's sleepovers are with neighbors, so she is always pretty close. The only sleepovers she does that are far away from us are with a family that we are very close with.

I am never late, but I was a whole month late in January. I went through several pregnancy tests that were all neg. I eventually decided just to believe the stinking tests and a couple of weeks later, my period showed up.

When you attend conventions are there usually vendors there from the following curricula?
Biblioplan I wasn't able to find this at any vendor
Truthquest Area 127 carried these
My Fathers World They had a (large) booth
Heart of Dakota I wasn't able to find this either
Tapestry of Grace TOG is not doing any conventions this year, but their online seminars were very helpful
Thanks.
HTH!

Our experience is that for swim lessons, the instructors are in the water. For swim team (including beginning stroke instruction), the coaches were out of the water.

I got the first disk out of the library. My kids DID sit through it (they're 8 and 6) but for teens, I think it would be too cheesy. There's a world history survey for adults that is much better and not at a markedly higher level IMHO. Here's a link:
Thanks for mentioning the library. It hadn't occured to me that they might carry Teaching Co. It turns out that they have over 300 differet lectures! Score one for our library system.

My 9yo special needs kiddo goes to ps.

Is it possible that you chose not to do the polio that day? I've always split mmr from any other vax, because it is one that tends to have more severe reactions (though we've never seen any in our kids). Unless you were seeing an incompetant doc, my guess is that he didn't receive the vax. I can't imagine a doctor's office just forgetting to record something like that.

We skipped it and I have no regrets. It just didn't fit into our plan for the year. I did have her do all of the reading and she did most of the work pages. If we were having a particularly cramped week, I let her skip those.

We've done Gamma through Epsilon and never needed them. Save your money!

If it is about "being bothered" in a world of relative truth ("whatever works for you") then no one on this thread is wrong. Relative truth submits to the individual.
But if there is absolute truth--that is, truth not defined by one's own perceptions and feelings--then there's room for discussion because words mean things and it's not just a personal definition so that it all works for me. If there is absolute truth, then I must submit myself to it, not the other way around.
My point is this: if it's all relative, the words don't mean anything anyway, and there's not much room for discussion, and it's not going to make anyone change. It's serial opinion posting.
Fantastically said. Thanks for this post.

We have 1 chihuahua. He is allowed on the couches and he sleeps with my dd. He is more like a cat than a dog. He is not allowed on my bed, mostly because his claws mess up my comforter.

One of the blogs I like to read, GetRichSlowly.org, includes updates on the garden that the writer and his wife have. He is very detailed.
http://www.getrichslowly.org/blog/2009/06/28/the-grs-garden-project-june-2009-update/
However, he has a lot more going on than we do - and it is just him and his wife.
Anyone have a little green house - I don't care what size - I am just wondering if you have a little green house if you could grow things out of season. I live in North east Texas, and am bummed that we got started so late, because some crops have two harvests - I believe broccoli is one.
I am wondering if it is worthwhile to go ahead and try to plant some herbs and if I need a little mini green house if we want to continue doing that after October.
Also - has anyone tried those upside down tomato plant things? Just curious if they really work or not. I think the DIY website has instructions on how to make one.
My mom has a hanging tomato plant, and it's huge. She lives in a place with only a patio in the back. I'm impressed with the whole setup. She says that you can grow other plants too. I think peas are one of them.

Ok, I've attached a pic of it. To me it looks like...hmmm, a smoking turd?
ROFL!!! Mine has it too!

No, you are not crazy. Spiritual warfare is very, very real. Pray, pray, pray! Honestly, as scary as it is to visually experience demons, I'd rather have that fear in me to keep me from getting complacent.

I would buy new and donate the old somewhere after I washed it.
:iagree:

Definitely NOT a status symbol. Ikea has some stuff that is unique, but mostly it's just inexpensive and nice looking. There is a range, from cheap to good quality. The stores are massive and make a wonderful girls' day out. Visually, it's a fun store to spend time in and you can usually find something that you never knew you needed, but you did!

Oh, I forgot a couple. Our friend's yellow lab was named Yellow Dog (may he rest in peace). My 4yo called him Lellow Dog.
And another friend has a cat named Sushi.

What an awesome gift! I'll be crashing at my grandparent's in Torrance. I'm looking forward to visiting minus the kids. Hopefully I'll get to have some nice, long, uninterupted conversations with them.
If you see a lady with short black hair, with bright red and blonde highlights and a look of joy across her face, that might be me!

I am soooooooo excited! My first conference in 2 years and I've been in need of some inspiration. I'm leaving tomorrow, spending a few days at my mom's and then leaving the kids to go to the conference, yippee!

I used to have neighbors whose dog was "Diogi" D-O-G.
A friend has a dog with the same name!
-
I knew a lab named Buttkiss. He would get out of the yard all the time, and they would go up and down the street yelling his name out.

Junior College. She wants to get some credits out of the way and then transfer when she's older (iow, when I'll let her)
LOL, it sounded exotic! Like that Brazilian martial arts/dance, or something. So it could be worse, right?
How does your DH aide you in HSing?

Dh funds this endeavor and cuts me a lot of slack in other areas of life. That's really all I need. He does not teach, and I really don't want him to. It works for us!
