  1. Saxon 5/4 is different than Saxon 3 and below. They were added on later by a different publisher basically for the public school system. I hate Saxon K-3rd with a passion. That said, I just switched my daughter to Saxon 5/4 from Abeka's 4th grade math and she is loving it. The first few lessons she was doing 2 lessons in an hr. She now does 1 lesson an hr since it has gotten a bit harder, but I still think she could finish quicker if she didn't get side tracked. We only do the fact tests occasionally and we skip the box at the beginning. I don't teach. She reads the lessons on her own and then does the work. If I did all that I could see it taking over an hr.
  2. Thank you. So my dd9 who is a natural speller, do you think I could start here in workbook 3? Do all the workbooks briefly review previous topics?
  3. Thank you! I am considering getting the workbooks, if we are able.
  4. I am not familiar with how 100 EZ lessons teaches reading, so I may not be of much help. I did just find phonics pathways though. I got a copy off ebay for I think $6 including shipping. It was definitely worth the money. I used Abeka with my first two children and this book is pretty much Abeka phonics K-2nd grade in one book. It starts off teaching blending two letter sounds-ba, be, bi, bo, bu etc. And then moves on to three letter short vowel words. My 6 year old that I am using it with has language delays among other issues and we skipped the blends and went to reading short vowel words. She just was not getting the blends. It might be worth trying. It also wouldn't hurt to take a break for a while. Sometimes I find that my kids minds need to mature more. If they aren't getting something and I put it away for a couple months and pull it back out, they all of a sudden are able to do it. I probably wait too long though, lol. My kids all started reading a couple months into their 1st grade year. They were reading chapter books soon after though. I never taught sight words etc.
  5. I just discovered Phonics Pathways and I love it. It is like Abeka's K-2nd grade curriculum in one easy open and go book. You could absolutely use it for a 4 year old, just slow down when you need to etc. I do write the words on a chalkboard for my dd because the pages are too busy for her. She does have some delays though, so it may just be that and not the actual pages.
  6. I have found a few old posts that have helped some, but I am hoping those who use/have used this are still on here. I would love to hear what your daily/weekly schedule looked like while using this, especially if you didn't use the workbooks and only pulled from the TM. I have read through the TM a few times and think I am starting to get it, but it would be so helpful to hear from others!
  7. I agree. I could have cared less about any of those people. "Celebrity" is not a big thing for me. I could never imagine myself asking for an autograph, waiting in line, wearing so and so's tshirt. Lol That said, I must admit that I did cry when Steve Irwin and Captain Phil (Deadliest Catch) died. But, they seemed more like real people to me :).
  8. This right here is me exactly! I cannot stand a mess. I am a neat freak that can't clean, lol. I get so overwhelmed and don't know where do start. I am a horrible "manager". I can't seem to delegate jobs, come up with schedules etc.Ive been so close a few times to having everything in order but can never keep it up. I just shut down. It doesn't help that I have 5 kids 9 and under who are home 24/7 and a husband who is gone 24/7.
