  1. Very. How can you write a research paper or a good essay without proper sentence structure? I never realized there was a problem because her standard test scores were so high in PS.:glare: She is very good with looking at the example and getting every question right. I don't want her to just feed it back to me. I want her to know why.
  2. :iagree:I am being very careful in how I speak to her about it. It is just hard for her when her sister that is 3yrs younger is not having trouble. I just keep reminding her that I took little sister out earlier, so she is learning earlier than big sister did. Walking on eggshells here. I am so aggravated!
  3. Thank you. Yes, very bright. I just think there is a mental block with English.
  4. This looks super. I am going to look at it right now. :001_smile: Thanks. I feel like pulling my hair out. Arrrggg!:cursing:
  5. My DD was in honors classes when I chose to start hsing. I can not believe the huge gaps I am finding in grammar. She is in 9th grade. Do you know that they have not even taught the kids to diagram a sentence?!:glare: I need to take her back to the basics without her feeling "dumb". She is very bright, and will catch on fast. She has not even memorized her linking verbs. How do these people expect children to write good papers if the don't even know sentence parts. What do I do? I don't even know where to start. My 6th grader is doing great. I took her out in 4th, and we have been using R&S. I love it. I think I need something with basic grammar, sentence structure, writing, and maybe even a spelling program. How does one do so well on standard test, and not know basic info? She was recognized on all her TAKS test in school. She is not feeling very good about herself, and I am feeling like a complete failure. I would appreciate any advice you might have.:bigear:
  6. I just pull it out in the middle of the liviing room floor, barricade it with the couch and chairs, and pray DH will take the kids somewhere with him. I am not nearly as organized. :glare: HMMMM...something to work towards.:)
  7. This sound nuts, but I have not sold any of my curricula. :001_huh: Crazy huh? I keep thinking I might need it later. I can get rid of clothes without any problem. I nearly cry when someone says I need to get rid of a book. :D
  8. Group hug!:grouphug: Praying for you and hoping God has great plans for you and your family :)
  9. People know where I stand on the issue of hsing. We live in a very small town. Everyone knows what everyone ate for breakfast kind of town.:glare: There are very very few hsers. When asked I do tell them my opinion. I don't open up the discussion, and I refuse to argue about it. I just give more info. if asked nicely.;)
  10. Might have been me. :blushing: Fairly new still. Not on all that much, and still feeling my way around. I never thought about checking dates. The thread at the bottom just looked interesting:D Forgive me?
  11. I nursed with all three of mine. They were all picky. I tried the cereal and baby food. They hated it! DD now 15 nursed for 6 months, and went almost straight to table food. DD now 12 nursed for 15 months, wanted nothing to do with anything but fruit. DS nursed for 3.5 yrs. He still only wants meat, strawberries, bananas, and apples. Picky, Picky, Picky! If you can believe it, they are very rarely ever sick. Very few doc visits. I keep trying to introduce new foods. Not real receptive children:D
  12. That's the truth! The PS we came from spent money on one thing only...Football! :glare:
  13.:eek:EEK!! I think Momma needs to be clued in on her son's behavior, but how do you even approach it?:glare:
  14. :iagree:This is very informative, and will give you a sense of control over the decision making process. Welcome to the boards. It's a great place to be:001_smile:
  15. Good idea. You don't need a doc that does not make you feel more stressed! I hope you like your new one. Good Luck!:001_smile:
  16. I was actually surprised to find out that I had some unschooling ideas implemented into my own curriculum. :001_huh: I know very few unschoolers, and I was told I was totally wrong to hs. This was several years ago, and I felt like I had been attacked. She just nearly told me outright that I was a bad momma:glare: I have to confess that I held a grudge against unschoolers after that. After reading this thread, I am now actively researching the unschooling movement.:001_smile: I will never be totally "child led", but I think letting them have an active say in what they want to learn and how is going to work wonders. Thanks to all the ladies who took time and explained your stand on this. I found some wonderfull ideas, and had a number of laughs. It feels good to have a safe place to go to for advice and help. :001_smile: What could I name my new idea? Classically unschooling with responsibility and chores? I'm all about finding a happy medium!
  17.  :cursing: Wow! This sent me on a feelings roller coaster. Surprised to angry to furious! I sure hope someone does something about this.
  18. Thank you. I will look into this. I have not heard of this:001_huh:
  19. You use to be able to. Now you have to buy a curriculum, or pay to put them in a class. :glare: We travel so much, that is not possible. I looked at Driver's Ed in a Box. Really pricey. We may not have any choice :glare: I'm grumpy about the whole thing. :driving:
