  1.:lol::lol: I haven't heard that in years!!! Thank you for the memory and the laugh.
  2. Sweet! I have tons of family history if you're ever interested. :D
  3. We have some very interesting people on here.:001_smile: The only thing I can think of is that my great...whatever...grandfather's brother was General Robert E. Lee. On the other side of the family, my great great grandmother's first name was America. :) One more thing, I am almost ashamed to say I would rather read a really hot romance than any other book :D Please don't take away my posting priveledges ;)
  4. Dad must not live close. My husband's family is not at all supportive either.
  5. Love to scrapbook so.... Cover some big boxes in batting to make it look like snow. Sit each child in the middle holding a stuffed animal or fishing pole and rubber fish. Take their pics, print them out, send them home as a momento of the day. Clear as mud? I have a picture in my mind. Just not sure how to get it across in words.:glare:
  6. If you have used a formal rhetoric or logic program, what did you use? Do you think I need to invest? DD 9th grade. Accelerated learner. :bigear:
  7.:lol::lol: Mine is worse. I am digging through WTM again to get ready for the new school year, but I am only reading a romance novel right now. I needed a break from "deep thinking". Just reading for the joy of it.:D
  8. There is a teacher at our PS that does that. Drivees me crazy. If she doesn't get 1st place in a beauty pagent or doesn't win in a school event she will go toe to toe with the judges.:glare: Even if the child that won is in her class at school!
  9.:lol::lol: I do the same thing. Thanks for making me feel normal, and know you are not alone.
  10.:rofl::rofl: I love your sense of humor. I have read other posts from you that make me giggle.
  11. I was introduced to Analytical Grammar by someone on this forum. Checked it out, and plan on using it this next year. Go and look at the Jr. version. I found the vids very helpful. Give it a listen. http://www.analyticalgrammar.com/
  12. Check out my reply to Melinda in VT. It is hard to get your point across in writing. BTW my marriage is fine. We started dating when I was 16, married at 20, and going on 16yrs this month. He is the love of my life. Doesn't mean he's perfect. I thought it was okay to vent a little on here. I was really interested in finding out how many husbands were more involved. Actually, he does a little bragging to his friends now, too. It's been about 2 years. Doesn't mean he's going to admit it to me. :glare: I'm not saying he's a bad parent. Involves himself in every other way. I was just wondering how to help get him more involved with hs. Well bless your heart. Good thing I'm not easily offended or that marital comment would have been considered a little judgemental.
  13. It's really great to hear so many positive things about so many husbands. :001_smile:
  14. I hate that it's so hard for you. Keep plugging along. He may change his mind with more time.:001_smile:
  15.:lol::lol: That really does sound terrible with just written words and no inflection. My husband and I have been together since I was 16 yrs old. He is the love of my life. By shaming I mean I tell him he will hurt the kids feelings if he doesn not sound more interested in their day. Now, I do enjoy telling him, "I told you so." He is now moving around with his job and we would have had to take them out anyway. :D He also tells me the same thing when he comes in from work and I'm in a bad mood because the kids fought all day. :glare: Tit for tat, I guess. :tongue_smilie:
  16. I'm not that easily offended. ;) I actually agree with you. Normally I wouldn't go against his wishes either. I told him I was tired of being the one to deal with the school. If he wanted to deal he would be taking lots of time off work. :glare: When he said, "Just do what you want!" (Now that was snarky) I took him at his word. He didn't think I'd do it.:D
  17. My DH was not at all keen about the idea of hsing. :glare: I did it anyway. :sneaky2: He is much better about it now, but not very involved. How do you get him more involved? I try to tell him about our day, show him their work, shame him about acting like he doesn't care. :glare: He changed jobs and works out of state all week. We would have had to take them out anyway. I love telling him I told you so... He' s a great Dad. I just would like more input from him on how things are progressing. He told me it would be my fault if we raised a bunch of dummies :001_tt2:. He said he was joking, the stinker.
  18. Hello from East Tx, but spending a lot of time in Louisiana due to hubby's work.:patriot::seeya:
  19. :lurk5: Any more? I love this question. What a big help when getting ready for the next year.
  20. Saxon Math was not a good fit for my 12yo. My 15 yro had no problem with it. I am ordering MUS for all three next year.
  21. Lapbooking is a wonderful way to get a child interested. Now that she is older we are using black cardstock instead of the shutter fold. For history we are studying the ancients. HOAC is great. They have Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Ancient India, Mummies....the list goes on. It reinforces what we study. I use the Kingfisher History Encyclopedia, and then find lapbooks to bring out certain things. We do the mini books, decorate any way she wants, glue it on the cardstock, and stick it in the folder. I use to think I had to do the whole lapbook, but now I give myself permission to use pieces of it.:001_smile: http://dynamic2moms.webs.com/ This is another place for free mini books. The graphics are wonderful and it is free. These two mothers worked their butts off. They are so nice to share. I have also "scrapbooked" our work. My 12 yro and my 15 yro have done beautiful lapbooks. The oldest did a TX lapbook as her first. She covered the folder in old TX maps, tweaked or changed the mini books to suit herself, and made sure to use tons of colored paper. She wrote a report and added a clear sheet cover to her lapbook to hold her report. I was amazed! Just remember to let them make their mark. It doesn't have to be perfect. Let them have fun while filling their minds with new info. The 12 yo loves to personalize hers. I don't care if it wears feathers if she is retaining the info.:)
  22. I have always felt if a child asks a question, they deserve and answer. Just make sure your answer is age appropriate. I think the book was called A Girls Life. Both my girls read this when we started talking about "girl stuff".
