  1. I downloaded the study app for my son, but it's timed on each question, does anyone know if the Accuplacer is a timed test? He can take it for the local community college and it's free, but I am debating ACT, SAT & Accuplacer, he's wanting to do a program there, so needing the SAT or ACT is not required, he's not my strongest student, so I want to choose what would help him do the best he could do. Any suggestions. I have a friend that said her dd did not do well enough on the Accuplacer to take college level courses, so I am not concerned. We have a year to prepare for whatever.
  2. People can foods for convenience, freezing things takes time & planning to use, canned items can just be opened and used. Canning potatoes correctly is safe, there is a pretty good chance that they were improperly canned. Following safe guidelines is a must for home canning. The temperature of the food would have made no difference in this case.
  3. Just curious, I have another year, but with prom planning and several open houses to attend, it really has made me think about it.
  4. My son did not pass a hearing test and required tubes, after the tubes, could hear 100%. I would push for a test as well.
  5. My daughter doesn't graduate for another year, but I am already starting to think about her party. We are working on helping with a prom this weekend and one of the things that we've done that I plan to copy is make a banner like this:http://www.craftdayisthebestday.com/2013/03/diy-book-page-banner-decorations.html?m=1
  6. I have not been to Freeport, but did not care for Nassau, when we took a cruise, it was my least favorite between St. Marten & St. Thomas & Nassau. The people there are SO pushy & it's just not as safe.
  7. I'm not sure about the NCAA, but I went to a mom's night out recently and a lot of homeschoolers were speaking who had put their kids through big universities and the subject of course descriptions came up and none of them kept descriptions, only a transcript.

Wow, good luck. I don't think I could ever do that to my boys. Taking away their Legos would be like someone taking away my iphone, just not something I would ever want done. The creative things that my teens put together with Legos is just not something that I could take from them.
  9. States sets laws here, dd is currently working at a greenhouse and has quite a few hours the next few weeks, but it will end mid June and it only started last week, she's mostly done with school, so I don't worry about it this time of year. It's seasonal work and she loves it, they love her, I get discounted plants and sometimes free ones, so it's a win, win.
  10. I grew up around smokers, my mom smoked until about 15 years ago. Unfortunately, I don't think there's ever been a decline of it, we live near three smoking houses (back yard neighbor, side neighbor and across the street neighbor) My side neighbor, whom I'm also friends with, has lupus as well, I wish so much that she could/would quit. Her daughter who is 13 just moved back with her and I know hates that her mom smokes. I would totally advise my kids against it, but I think they would never date someone that smokes, they see the stink that it causes just outside. It's so obvious when someone is outside smoking. My friend doesn't smoke inside her house, but smokes in her garage. YUCK!
  11. Ok, I talked to both Paypal & Ebay and they both assured me that they would not take my money back and that I could call on the 14th if they buyer did not respond and they would intervene. It shows on both accounts that it was delivered.
  12. $5-$10, these are not close people and don't really expect anything, but I don't really want to show up empty handed, I even thought of using a container and putting homemade caramel corn or something like that in it. Or a small jar filled with candy and maybe tucking $5 inside it.
  13. How do I add proof? I am waiting on the phone with them now, but I haven't been able to find where to add proof.
  14. I sold some stuff on e-bay and it was shipped media mail. It was mailed on March 26th and was in Iowa around the 6th, the buyer opened a case against me and then the next day it was in NJ and was delivered to NY today. Paypal shows that The funds are not available while this transaction is being reviewed by eBay. I am afraid they are going to refund the money on items that were delivered. I just contacted them and also asked the buyer to close the case. Ugh....anyone dealt with this before and what happened?
  15. She's a junior and I know a lot of the homeschool graduates as well, We have at least three open houses this year, what's something that can be easily given that doesn't break the bank?
  16. I already ran it by the secretary and she thought it was a nice idea.
  17. The one thing that may happen in the long run is that the root will die and the tooth will just turn yellowish and it will be permanent. I have a tooth that is like this from DD hitting her head on my front tooth with she was under a year old. I know a young man that has a yellow tooth from a sports injury and also another mom, really it's not uncommon.
  18. I will not do the Visa gift card, because we are only talking $15 each here.
  19. I run a homeschool co-op and the church that we meet at has two janitors that clean up after us, they do get paid by the church, but I thought it would be nice to give them a "thank-you" giftcard to some place. I do not know them or what they even like. Where would you suggest? Some thoughts, Subway, Walmart. Any other suggestions? We live in a large town with all kinds of places. I don't know if they drink coffee, or I would do Starbucks or something like that. Maybe Panera? I dunno, open to ideas.
  20. She is actually putting up most of the money, she's been saving for it and does have more, but I don't want her to use the whole amount that she has on a car.
  21. I used to sell on e-baby, but anymore the fees just add up too quickly and you have to do a lot of business to really make it worth your while. I sold something for about $35 recently, $9.00 of that was shipping and just over $4 was e-bays fee, plus the amount that paypal took out $1.33, not much, but it adds up.
  22. Is he college bound? or are you pushing him to be college bound? We've got friends that have never officially graduated their children and they are all successful now, one is in the military, one is self employed and another went into the workforce and has a decent job with benefits. Is it ideal? Probably not, but her kids did not see going the college route and they did not push it. I know another family that had their son take the GED and start classes at the community college. Just saying, it can work with other options.
  23. Dd is 17 and almost has enough hours for her license. I drove her back and forth to work last summer and she's starting work again (seasonal work for a green house) It's only about 5 miles away, but I am SO ready for her to get her license. I am afraid a car won't be too far behind. We can afford something under about $2-3,000. Any tips on finding something reliable?
  24. No, there is no merit aid at the school she is applying. My husband doesn't make that much and she should get financial aid as well and does have an account that her grandfather set up, but can't touch it until she's 21, it's not a lot, but would pay for two semesters if needed.
  25. She did well enough to get into her school choices, I just thought that she would do "better" than what her actual score was. She did take a prep class, but she started her period midway through the SAT and did not have ibuprofen and said it was really hard to concentrate. She does not want to retake it and I'm not going to make her.
