  1. I totally would (have) let my kids ride their bikes in the house. We live in South Dakota....the winters get loooong.
  2. I just have preschoolers at this point so we go to the school room and either color, play playdough or a quick game. We then do calendar time - where we follow a mix of http://1plus1plus1equals1.com/Calendar.html and my calendar from Learning Resources (I looked for a link but it looks like they don't carry it any more) which has letter of the day, rhyme time, number of the day. We are also learning a song (seasonal) a month. It is a great way to start the day!
  3. My daughter's asthma flared up about that age. However, it was two years later after a hospital admission that she was finally diagnosed. I would take her in to a specialist.
  4. We like this one around here :-) http://www.mothergoosetime.com/
  5. I use this and love it! Quick, easy prep...it's nice knowing you have everything you need for a week and has really cut down on going out to eat because of laziness :-)
  6. There are a bunch of fun activities to print out on this site....works great with workboxes :-) http://confessionsofahomeschooler.blogspot.com/2009/11/my-printables.html
  7. I am left handed and the scissors for left or right handed people are a joke. I can't cut with them to save my life. You need to get a pair specifically for left handed people.
  8. I got my Oreck on QVC. It was one of their today's special values so they had it for 5 payments. Mine is plain gray, hypoallergenic...but similar to this one http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app.detail/params.item.V29495.desc.Oreck-XL-American-Heritage-Upright-Vacuum It doesn't have attachments but at the time they had a little canister vac that came with it that has attachments that I use.
  9. I NEVER thought I could love a vacuum.....until I got my Oreck about 8 years ago. It is extremely light, which is great because we have an upstairs and a finished basement. It is also very reliable...in the eight years I've owned it I've needed to replace the belt once (and very simple..I did it myself). I would highly recommend it!
  10. I wanted something for my 2 year old to do this year also. I wanted her to feel like she had her own 'school'. I found this http://www.hubbardscupboard.org/joyful_learning.html It's not secular but I'm making it that way. It has some quick easy ideas.
  11. Intellego has very good unit studies. Here's one on World Religions http://www.intellegounitstudies.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6&products_id=37

  13. In my main bathroom I have - "Soap is to the body what laughter is to the soul"
  14. I used it this year with my 8th grade DD. This was our first year homeschooling so I don't have anything else to compare it with but we LOVED it. She went from hating history to loving it. The books were wonderful - it was a great year. If you have any specific questions I will do my best to answer them.
  15. I was wondering if anyone has had the chance to use this http://www.kinderbach.com/index.html I was thinking about using this when my son turns 5
  16. I thought this book also looked fun. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0439222699/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER
  17. I am going to try something new this year - School 15 days of every month - that way we won't feel rushed and our off days can be used for fun projects or field trips or we can school on weekends if we want. I am planning on starting August 1. We will see how it goes. This year I stuck to a traditional public school schedule but we are done already and bored :-)
  18. I am a deist and have been looking for books to educate my kids on different religions. I have found a couple but have not received them yet - Sacred Myths: Stories of World Religions by Marilyn McFarlane and One World, Many Religions: The Ways We Worship by Mary Pope Osborne.
  19. Thanks soo much for this link. My daughter is working through WW8.
