  1. Both stopped at three on the dot. Once in a blue, blue moon, they'll fall asleep in the afternoon while reading a book or watching a video, but it is not intentional. I wish it were... sigh.........
  2. Ditto to the curry. I add halved red grapes, chopped celery, chopped mint, toasted almond slivers (not slices), Major Grey-style mango chutney. I think there's something else, but I can't put my finger on it! Instead of all mayo I substitute half non-fat yogurt or non-fat sour cream. It's really good served inside of a wedge of cantaloupe.
  3. Niiiiice. Thanks for the Saturday funnies :001_smile:
  4. I'm awaiting the culture... Right now she is doing well. I have cut out pop (which was tough as yesterday was a "celebration" day). She's taking her antibiotics and cranberry tabs.
  5. When visiting my family in Western Washington, I adore going to Top Foods and Fred Meyer. Here in Almost Mexico, I really like Fry's (a Kroger store) and Sunflower Market. I also go to Costco and the Base Commissary, but can't stand the latter even though you can't beat the prices on staples there.
  6. After reading that fun "turned up collars coming back" thread, I want to know the worst thing you have worn for the sake of fashion. I think my khaki jumpsuit in 1987 with the elastic waist and cross-body zip and funky flip-down or up collar wins it for me...especially when accessorized with off-white slouchy topped ankle boots, bi-level permed hair and big honkin' plastic earrings.
  7. Click this link for free downloads of wonderful scripture memorization songs from Covenant Life Church. Beautiful, and help you with that often tough scripture memory! I also love music from Indelible Grace and Sovereign Grace.
  8. My personal preppy record in about 1983: Pink Polo - popped collar Green Izon - popped collar White button-down broadcloth shirt over the top Green Brooks Brothers Sweater tied over my shoulders Corduroy a-line skirt Shining-so-bright penny loafers (with shiny pennies placed) No socks I was a proud owner of the preppy handbook. If it wasn't in it, I didn't wear it. I even had one of those wooden-handled purses where you could change-out the fabric purse part.
  9. Mostly Hanna Andersson (hannaandersson.com) and J. Jill. The HA women's clothing is so well made, and often on sale. So if you see something you like the chances are within a month or two it will go on sale.
  10. I mentioned this on another thread recently (I can't remember which...I'm a posting fiend lately!) I found a very good, pretty darn close version of Anne of Avonlea (with some of Anne of the Island thrown in) at the library last week. It is a 1975 BBC version. The production values aren't nearly as beautiful as the Sullivan Canadian CBC production, but the screenplay and acting are great. Here's Amazon link.
  11. We don't do bubble baths, but inevitably, with two girls in the tub, shampoo and soap, it gets bubbly... We have used gentle soaps, but now I'm gittin' ta thinkin' -- shampoo is rarely gentle! We are using Suave kids shampoo because I got a humongo bottle on sale at Target for less than a buck. What soap do you use? We've used Method kids (which is GREAT and sooooo gentle) but it is $7 a bottle, and lasts about 2 weeks. What do you use? What about a bar soap? Glycerine soap?
  12. Thanks for replying all! I started this thread late last night, and I was pooped. I forgot to mention that she DID have a reflux test when she was only about 8 months old after a really bad UTI/kidney infection. It was negative. Any chances that reflux can develop as they get older? Or is a malformation congenital only?
  13. My 3 yo dd was just got her third UTI. She's officially been diagnosed with two, but had a third that I staved off with massive amounts of cranberry. She had to be "cathed" twice tonight.:eek: It was awful for her. I was crying, but trying not to let her see. She has to follow up with her regular pediatrician on Tuesday (we were sent to an urgent care clinic today b/c Base was closed for long weekend). Anyone else out there had to deal with multiple UTIs in a very young daughter? What course of action do you think should I suggest next? I know that sounds strange, but with the military Base docs, one has to SERIOUSLY BEG for help and direction sometimes. This has been a long ordeal, and I want it to be DONE! Should I ask for a referral to a pediatric urologist at this point?
  14. "Skipping Christmas" by John Grisham is side-splittingly funny. The movie "Christmas with the Kranks" is not even direct to video worthy. Awful.
  15. Languishing. It is just SOOOO hot. We need to figure out some sort of sun shield, which will help with the direct sunlight, but won't help with the actual overbearing heat. Our tomatoes are doing just ok. Our beans have all but died after such a promising start. I'm just planning to keep on watering and tending to keep it alive through the summer, then hope for a recovery in the fall.
  16. Thanks for this link! I'll check it our further. This has been an issue close to DHs and my heart for a while now. Here's a very interesting (albeit frightening) book on the subject that was written a few years back...I read it when my youngest was about 9 months old. I did everything I could to keep the branding nightmare out of our home, have failed in some areas (Disney princesses...AAACK!), but we are working on it, and are aware of the seriousness of this targeting. Born To Buy -- The Commercialized Child and the New Consumer Culture by Juliet B. Schor.
  17. I am truly happy for Kris and his wife for the win. It was so sweet when he was given the car...he said that they needed a car so badly. Been there! However, I do think Adam deserved to win more, simply based upon raw talent. I know I would never want an entire Adam album, but I would turn up a song of his on the radio on a hot summer day with the windows rolled down. Adam will be a GINORMOUS star... ...and Kris will do very, very well. My DH said he'll make millions writing songs that can be played for years to come on that nighttime sentimental-fest radio show  that plays on soft rock stations with "Delilah". Good season. Oh, my favorite part was actually that wacko with the dual personality. For some reason I just couldn't stop laughing. So ridiculous! And all of that talent at one show!!! Cool...
  18. My husband and I have potatoes growing in a plastic kiddie pool right now. The plants are about 8 inches tall. 1) When do we start mounding the dirt on them? and 2) how much foliage to you leave above the mound? They seem amazingly healthy. It was kind of an experiment. Of the 30 or so seed potatoes we planted, we got 20 plants/shoots from the big plants. We're pleased!
  19. Last night after I responded to this thread WELL after my bedtime, I just could not go to sleep thinking about one particular book the title of which I just couldn't remember, but here are some more I came up with: Caddie Woodlawn Pippi Longstocking The Oz books Little Women The Princess and the Goblin (George MacDonald) & The Princess and Curdie (These are the ones that I just COULD NOT remember! All I could think of was the cover of the book in my school library of a little girl following a "troll" up a mountain...and "George", but with that little big of info, I found it on Amazon. The mind is crazy at 11:30 pm)
  20. Narnia, Madelene L'Engle's Time series (Wrinkle, etc.), Anne of Green Gables et al, James and the Giant Peach, Little Bear books, the old Miffy/Dick Bruna books (for VERY little kiddoes) from the 1960's if you can find them, Heidi, Secret Garden, The Hobbit, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass
  21. Looks good...I've considered them before. I used to shave my legs with an electric shaver, but it went kaput a few months ago, and now I'm back to knicks and cuts on my legs. So....just HOW much does it hurt? Really. I have had waxing done regularly in the past, but had to cut it out because the budget had to give somewhere :tongue_smilie:...is it good for (ahem) bikini area? (I CAN'T EVEN BELIEVE I just typed that on this board, but who the heck else am I going to ask but complete strangers whom I feel like I know!!!???):lol::lol:
