  1. Enjoyed your blog, subscribed. I needed to accumulate some middle school curric. ideas!
  2. It's for occasions like this that I have SWAT on speed dial. Sounds like the neighbors that let their kids play in the front yard during school hours. SWAT put an end to that. Send the right message to the other hs'ers in the area. Same kind of baloney home "schooling" that encourages that free expression during art time instead of careful detailed instruction with precut, predrawn materials. Trust me CPS is too slow. Valuable instruction is being wasted.
  3. Hilton Head is beautiful that time of year, it gets hot and sticky usually mid June and rest of summer. So, that's an ideal time for family at the beach. There's lots of bike trails on the island. Sea Pines has a lovely oak alley near a horse pasture to bike through. Of course, nature trails, bird watching, dolphin cruises, and fishing. Of course there is lots of dining and shopping if you're into that. Savannah is very close, and I think Charleston is two hours away. Nice day trips for seeing historical cities .
  4. After a few words to make sure the elderly lady wasn't being abandoned for the day, and was comfortable, this is really going too far. I wonder if it had been an elderly MAN, like my dad, if this would've gone this far. My dad would've been giving that officer a piece of his mind!
  5. I would be crushed too! Praying for the best possible out come for your ds. It is good they found out about this, and he's on xarelto already.
  6. Our dd's college counselor had a parent session where they told the parents that it was best for the students that we keep the kid's room the same for their first year of college. Yep, well, it's a good idea, don't know how practical it is for all families. Her younger sister moved her own stuff in five minutes and has big plans for her room! Including paint and mermaid posters...it'll never be the same, lol!
  7. I think the bolded part answers your questions. Not all type 1's are affected this way, but this certainly has seemed to have been a problem for your son in the past. Even if he did ok, just think how much better he would have done if he had been thinking clearly and able to focus! It sounds like your son needs to have the accommodations in place, just in case. My kid has anxiety and anxiety makes her bg drop!
  8. This is depressing! I did actually, LOL, when I read that!!
  9. I can't imagine most students being that careful either! Her roommate is on the same team, so maybe they can bag and wash everything together, which would be easier. I don't think these will have any encasements, just fabric mattresses, so I'm definitely investing in one after reading some of these comments.
  10. I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering about it. The dorm room I saw had no box springs, just an uncovered mattress. I don't know if the room we saw was typical or not, since it didn't occur to me to ask. That sounds like good advice and simple, keeping luggage eight feet away if possible. It sounds like it doesn't matter what brand I buy as long as it gets sealed with tape, good to know! I wasn't sure how much an issue it would be for dorms, or not. I had never heard of movie theaters and some restaurants being affected!
  11. Yes, what I remember of the dorms, was a thin mattress, no cover. The college sent us flyer about sheets, mattress covers, sets, etc. but I don't have it because I was going to get our own stuff since I know the local stores carry some XL twin stuff.
  12. I assume the kids can wash their stuff on return from traveling. But even if they went straight to bed because they're exhausted, then at least their mattress would be protected, which is something they wouldn't be able to wash if it got infested. The poster I mentioned in the thread said something about, if I remember correctly, that only the kid who had some kind of special mattress cover didn't get bedbugs in the dorm. So, I assume, a cover might be something kids would need? I also made the assumption that my kid is especially vulnerable, since she may be bringing them thru her travels. Idk. I'm wondering, that is why I'm asking here.
  13. My kid likes to travel with her pillow. I admit I don't know much about bedbugs, just stories from people who did, and they got bedbugs from hotels. I assumed that they brought the bugs home with them, or is that very unlikely?
