  1. They way it is working for I guess I would call them my underlings is they(students) will need access to a vet hospital as some time throughtout their schooling and they train for those specific events. For 2 of the gals they did not have to do this until almost their last term. Again though, each school is different. Good luck, and as Soph the vet said. If your goal/dream is vet school then I would go for it. Teching and vetting are really 2 very different jobs. Many vets have teched and many techs do decide later to go on to vet school but if your dream is vet school don't let that dream go.
  2. We use Real Science 4 kids. my daughter saw it at the Homeschool fair and fell in love with houw it was layed out and written so we got it and she LOVES it.
  3. We are normally at karate and kickboxing Monday through Friday nights but if not then we play games, read ALOT, chores, dance, wrestle/spar,puzzles, etc. Mostly we do these things together, sometimes just my children and i will finish chores. We also play with our pets, care/groom them. We have 1 tv but no cable/satelite and we only have family movie night on Sunday Nights. Normally 1 movie which follows game night anyway. So we are big with games here.
  4. Prayers coming and great news that he is already thinking of breakfast.
  5. I cannot help to much on the different programs as they are all different with cost, class schedules and so forth. Just make sure that the online school is accredited. THe only online school that I have assisted with(mainly signed forms for students and so forth) is http://www.spcollege.edu/hec/vt/index.htm. Good luck and have fun, it can be a hard job but so rewarding. Any questions you can pm. Allene
  6. Yes, UTI could cause this as well as Type 1 Daibetes but with type 1 he "normally" would feel quite sick, have lost weight, huge bags under his eyes, etc. Not all do but most. I would have him checked out by a doc for either. Good luck, Allene
  7. We started my son sitting because he was too short to reach standing and once while on the step stool fell off sideways and cracked his head. So after that he wanted to sit. Now he is starting to stand but really could care less which way he goes. if he is out in public he prefers to sit(which I cringe at so we rarely go somewhere where this is an issue). Although there was one time that he thought he was done and went to shake and he was pointing it up to see if he was done and he started peeing again. he was about 2 inches away from his face.
  8. Wow,:) thanks everyone for your ideas. i guess we will get them. No one near by has the dvds only the books like me so i could not look at them ahead of time. Allene
  9. Thanks,:) that was my fear as well. Allene
  10. Does anyone use them, are they worth it, do they teach anything that the books do not? I have an older edition of LCI but my daughter loves things taught by dvd and i wondered if these would actually be beneficial. We are on a VERY tight budget and if i do not need them I would be very happy but if they will help, maybe even give me a free moment to do something else then I will GLADLY get them. A pro for me to these would be that my 4 year old could watch them with her. He loves doing work with big sis. Allene
  11. We enjoy them a lot. They really make the whole learning aobut something fun and even gave me some other ideas. I know what you mean about the weather. i sent my daughter out to walk the dog today and they both were slipping all over the ice. Of course my daughter cannot really walk our puppy anymore as she is outweighed by her by 50 lbs right now.:) Just quick potty breaks in and out. Have fun though and do not forget sweaters for those little ones. They look so cute. You could even have your children make some. Easy if you use fleece or knit them if they know how to knit. Allene
  12. THe First year book is Wiggles and Wags. Covers anatomy, breeds, housetraining, training of different types, body language with tails, fleas and heakth care, teeth, ears, eyes, saying good bye(euthanasia or just loss of a pet or helping someone else through that),bathing, basic commands. Pluys every small section has a BUNCH of extra ideas that you can do. We did a ton of extra things. My daughter won a Grand Champion and her and her puppy took First place in the showing as well. You do not have to join a club but it started right at the time we were getting ours and so timing worked. More fun in a small group. We LOVE the 4-H books for the dogs and are doing the next one now. Still lots of fun but we are a highly motivated animal family.:) Good luck and have fun, Allene
  13. We have it. It covers things such as dog terminology, senses, relationships with wolves, dog body language and how to show your own body language, dog jobs, common names, dog shows and quite a bit about those, specific breed(you pick which ones) questions, groupings of dogs and about each of those, different sizes, some dog sayings and their meanings, body language to other dogs and what they mean, dog anatomy, history of, iditarod, safety with dogs, caring for, famous dogs, colors and markings, geography(where scertain breeds come from), normal behavior. They also have a large section of additional activites with lots of different ideas, books to read, resources on the internet, different dog movies(minly fiction ones). So, all in all it is pretty good. I am a licensed veterinary technician and my daughter knows more about the care so we will add to that but we do not watch much tv(we do not have, only Netflix) so we might try some of those for fun extras. The nice thing about most of the books is you can extend for more research on a specific title. I would also check into the 4-H book. We LOVED that and are still doing it, Allene
  14. I still read outloud to my 9 year old daughter BUT she loves this as much as I do so probaly when she stops enjoying it as much.:001_smile: Allene
  15. We have always made our own furniture. We mainly used cardboard and glue/tape. We have made cribs, meds, chairs, tables, etc. Then we paint them, decorate with stickers, etc. We made rugs out of weaving paper and weaving looms. The nice thing is my daughter designed and made most of them, I was just there to enjoy and supervise. Have fun with it, Allene
  16. I would not really wait around and call to have him checked up on. With both diarrhea and vomiting he will get dehydrated rather quickly. No strange food items or plants that he could have gotten into the last few days? Is he drinking at all and vomiting up the water? If so he needs to go in, if he is only vomiting the food I would withold the food for a few hours to let his system rest and try small amounts of water to make sure he does not vomit that. If he vomits more than 4 times with diarrhea no waiting just schedule that appointment. Good luck, Allene
  17. No but on New Years day we had one last for 3 minutes.:tongue_smilie: 5 people in the game and it was over so quickly. Allene
  18. What about a dog lapbook through Live and Learn or Curr click? You could even make it more scrapbook type with pictures of the puppies. What about 4-H. They have dog programs for those ages and work on training, care, breeds, etc of dogs. Could be a lot of fun for your children. My daughter is in her 2nd year of her dog 4-H project, we all love it. Enjoy the puppies, Allene
  19. Def. tell her. There is no reason why she could not mourn with her family.:grouphug: As far as the bird. My first thought would be what food are were you feeding and why vitmains as well. most foods are not actually suitable for birds or most small animals either, are already covered in vitamins and then to give them extra can be to much on their body. Any no stick pans, candles, air freshners, essential oils, cats(saliva is deadly and causes death in normally 24-36 hours if the bird had any scratch, wound, holes from pin feathers). Hair sprays, perfumes, etc. All of those are deadly to birds. The problem with owning birds is they are prey animals so they are wonderful at hiding their illnesses. She could have been sick and the stress of going somewhere was too much for her. unless you were weighing her, watching her droppings and so forth it can be quite difficult to know if they are maintaining good health. Hang in there and good luck, Allene
  20. I am assumming here that your FIL is a type 2 diabetic, what about your son? There is a HUGE difference between Type 1 and Type 2 on care of so it does make a difference. My daughters endo DOES NOT want us to restrict carbs except for non healthy carbs. However we do have to carb count ALL carbs for the amount of insulin needed for the body. My daughters endo states that most children NEED carbs for brain growth. NOw, many docs just as many people have differening thoughts on this. However it does make a difference for your son to know if he is pre Type 2 or pre type 1. Type 2, sometimes diet and exercise is the best way to control the disease. Type 1, if he is in early stages(honeymoon) then sometimes you can stay in a honeymoon state for ages BUT eventually you must go on Insulin as your pancreas will shut down for insulin production. A wonderful board for discussing things of this nature is childrenwithdiabetes forums. It is an online support group. As for your fil, many people do not realize that the different types of Diabetes are COMPLETELY different diseases and should be/need to be treated differently. Good luck, Allene
  21. We do and are fine with that. Although my daughter still has to see her endo now every 6 months as well but for all other items relating to health she sees our family doc. He has 7 children of his own so I think he has an idea on puberty.:tongue_smilie: Most are girls. Allene
  22. I feel your pain. What about meeting him at your house and having a "group" of their friends meet for games or a movie at your house. Completely supervised in your eyes but they are still able to "hang out" ? My only thought right now. Everyone always asks me what I can going to do when my daughter reaches that age and I remind everyone that I have 2 very large dogs and a shot gun with some property. Seriously though. A friendship can be courting style and they can still "hang out". Good luck, Allene
