  1. It might be - but it also may be a source of hurting other people's feelings and God knows we have enough of that here sometimes....
  2. Rising is much easier to say than "will be going into grade x next year".
  3. It is 5:25 and the last page is done, and I'm tired. We finished all we planned on accomplishing!
  4. It's 4pm and we're still not done yet. To be fair, we started at 11:30 instead of 9:30 am.
  5. We start tomorrow as well. I don't have a set schedule of times, but of subjects and things we want to cover. Most of them is just acquainting ourselves with the books and expectations of the year, but I'm seeing that I might just have planned too much. I usually fill in the week but I only filled in the day with pencil so that I can erase!! LOL In Art, Cursive, Music, PE, Reading, and Science, we're simply browsing the books and the scope of work for the year. English we are doing a review page to see where she is at. History is the biggie - we have a Bill Nye Archaeology DVD, text book, fossils and What is History along with a book "Motel of the Mysteries" that we will be reading at night. Latin: Introduction Math - 1 lesson to see where she is Phonics - 1 page Religion lots Spelling - introduction of the lists Vocabulary - First 5 words for the week. ===== We plan on starting at 9:30 and want to be finished by 2 pm each day.
  6. I guess we can!! At another board, we started saying Asshat to get around it.
  7. Oh. My. God. I'm laughing so hard I can't see straight. <mental note - sanitize all used manipulatives - you don't know where they've been> :svengo:
  8. Naw, I have to use Tylenol due to stomach issues. No cupcake for me?
  9. Can someone clarify what trolling means at this forum? Troll and trolling has typically meant to me that it's a person who is just coming in to stir the pot and say obnoxious things to cause drama. It could be a regular poster or a person no one knows. I just finally read the entire thread. Do I get a cupcake? A kilted hottie?
  10. Wow, 12 pages?? I wish I didn't have to get up early...I bet this is an interesting thread!!!
  11. I too would call it history and I am right now! Our book starts with homo habilus so I am adding a unit before we start the book about it. When Evolution comes up, it will be taught in science.
  12. USA gold wood pencils are hands down the Best pencils ever.
  13. Gulp. I don't think I have laughed this hard ever on this forum at the Danny Bonaduce comments!!!
  14. I agree. However, I don't think that sending them to a brick and mortar high school is the only way to achieve that. I know you didn't say that, but sometimes I think that the general population DOES think that.
  15. I agree with everything you said. What I have a problem with is the idea that she needs to be purposely "exposed" to the real world. This is just a general - not to you, Jean: Should we as parents sit our kids down in our lap and open up a Hustler Magazine and show pornography to them? Should we give them their first drink, their first high, be there to give them tips on their first sexual encounter? I just don't buy the "expose kids to what they might come across" thought process. However, like others have said, she is their daughter and they will do what they think is best for their child.
  16. I think this is different though. It sounds like the teen WANTS schooling, she just doesn't want to go outside to public school...
  17. I would not force my child to go to a public school for high school if she was adamantly against it - especially if she had been home schooled the entire time. I don't think life is about throwing someone to the wolves and if they survive, they are "toughened up".
  18. Normally we wait, but we are trying to switch to a different schedule where we take two month long breaks in the school year instead of 2 months of summer.
  19. Guess it wasn't as funny as I thought it was! Combining "The Princess Bride"with a pet peeve was a win win for me!
  20. Just to be clear: I was not putting down anyone's desire for formality or conferences. I'm on a different journey - to get the stick out of my butt and make education be different than "school at home" which was killing the love for learning. :)
  21. Yes - this is us. As I am trying to get less 'schoolish' in our home, things like this are going away.
