  1. It's so funny, because that is precisely why I prefer this format! :o If I am in a large living room with a lot of people, I will sit quietly and listen, and rarely talk. However, get me in a small room with only a few people and I will chat away. To me, these boards feel more "intimate" whereas the others were just so exposed. I think it is very much a personality thing, with no right or wrong opinion.
  2. My not-too-into-reading 10yo daughter fell in love with the Series of Unfortunate Events books this year. Lemony Snicket's style of writing just cracks her up! (She's not exactly what you would call an academic :o) But alas, she finished book 13, so now she is reading his Unofficial Autobiography and laughing out loud on a regular basis. Now if I could only find an author with a similar style. Hey, have you guys read any of the "Toad Rage" books by Morris Gleitzman? They were my favorite read-alouds EVER. Hilarious! (In a non-intellectual, somewhat irreverent kind of way.)
  3. Oh, I so want to get some herbs started. Everything is pretty much frozen outside, so that is really my only option right now. I would love to grow basil, cilantro, thyme, rosemary, chives, and parsley. I know absolutely nothing about growing herbs indoors (or outdoors for that matter). Guess it's time to learn eh? Maybe I will do that on our unplanned day off today. :p
  4. My daughter chats online with other members of Disney's Toontown, and several of them mentioned that they had no school today. I didn't even realize it was a holiday. So she was moping this morning about it. I told her, okay, well if ya wanna be just like the other kids, we can start at 8:30, end at 3:30, and have homework most nights. She didn't like that idea very much! But I decided to let up on the taskmaster routine and let her have a day off. Doesn't she realize I'm just gonna squeeze today's work into the other four days now?!?! Just kidding. Sorta.
  5. Have you ever noticed that gin & tonics taste a lot like you would imagine that a christmas tree would? Someone pointed that out to me once and I haven't been able to enjoy them ever since. Oops. Hope I don't ruin it for you!
  6. I like a visually interesting blog. I think mine may be getting a bit too cluttered, but the pictures all give insight into who I am. As far as the content I enjoy reading in others' blogs, I love a sharp wit, dry humor, intelligence, and sarcasm. I prefer blogs about life in general, not strictly homeschooling. I like reading blogs of other secular homeschoolers. I really like the layout of Jessica's blog. (triviumacademy) She has the three-column style, but her center section expands depending on the width of your monitor. I think it's called "floating" when it does that. I can't, however, figure out how to make mine do that.
  7. Hmmm... For #1, could you tag them all, and then have your tags listed in your sidebar? Then if someone clicked "Link of the Day", all the posts tagged Link of the Day would come up. Is that kind of what you're thinking? For #2, I use ScreenHunter. It is a free download that enables you to click and drag over anything on your desktop (any program, web page, it will even freeze a flash animation and allow you to capture a screen shot of it) and saves it as a jpeg. Just Google ScreenHunter and it should pull up several places to download it.
  8. Well, Hair Nation on Sirius satellite radio introduced my daughter to the music of my youth, and that was well and good. But Guitar Hero made her want to be a rock star. Now with Rock Band she wants to be a drummer (makes me so proud!). But then she realized that the drummers are in the back and not noticed as much, so maybe she will play guitar and sing. But then I told her about the calluses she will have to build to play guitar, so she is still thinking about that one. But she still has no interest in going to concerts. She likes making music videos with her online friends on Toontown, and she keeps wanting to do songs she likes (Safety Dance is one of them :)) but none of her friends recognize any of them. Here is her video for . Pretty cool, eh? (Proud Mama moment) We have a problem trying to come up with modern music other than Hannah Montana and Aly & AJ. Her next video she is making is "Hey Baby" by No Doubt. That is about as current as we get, and I just looked it up and it is 7 years old. Geez.
  9. Type your blog name then highlight it and click the globe with the chain icon. It will then allow you to type the url of the blog. Not sure about deleting posts.
  10. You need to upload an avatar. It has to be a certain size, so you may need to resize your profile picture.
  11. If you don't want to see all the avatars, etc., go to User CP (top left), then Edit Options (menu on left), then scroll down and unclick Show Signatures, Avatars, or Images.
  12. That he is not BARRY!! (But I guess we've had this battle before... ;) )
  13. NO!!! Where did Johnny go??? Next thing we know, it will be Kendall Windham!!
  14. Love it, love it, love it! Of course, I'm a very visual person, so I love seeing people's personalities reflected in their avatars, signatures, etc. Change is good.
